Can you imagine a pretend wedding of this century? The parents will have a fit about it. Other people who hears about it on tv or online. They'll have a fit. It will be like World War 3 zone on news page.
Anyways, I did enjoy rereading this book again.
That goody bag, I want. I rarely went to birthday parties. I think, I only went to a few in my entire life. I did have birthday parties of my own, just didn't go a lot at other kids birthday parties.
I remember I went to a birthday party, everyone in my class was invited. My mom took me to the party. She stayed at the birthday party. Helped out. We did bought a nice birthday gift. I can't remember the girl's name. But, she was in the wheelchair at the time. But, one of my classmates knew about her. Sadly, she passed on. When she was a child. I believe she had Cerebral Palsy, like me. But hers was the worse than mine.

I was really into Valentines this year and made my cards, bought presents, etc. I love reading about the breakfast where they exchanged gifts and flowers. From the illustration it looks like Karen got those plastic Goody barrettes, haha. I used to wear those at her age.
Dawn also gets gifts at breakfast in a CA diary I think. Carol gives her heart shaped earrings and red soap.

Only remember bits and pieces of this book as I've read it maybe twice..but I understand Karen's reasoning behind opting not to give Pamela a good present, hell, if I were her, I would not have even GONE to the party, much less give her a gift..I would have been like hell no, she's the worst..wonder why the invited students' parents were so keen on them going in the first place. But it is stupid to force friendships with a person their children hate..I also understood how Karen felt betrayed by Ricky considering Pamela doesn't like him any better..not in that book at least. The wedding was cute..and I find it ironic how Pamela only wanted to invite her two best friends and then gets insulted because she wasn't invited to Karen's half-birthday party..although not very nice, that is KARMA.

That is a really good point. Like I’m sure if they didn’t want to go they shouldn’t have to go. Everyone in Karen’s family knows that she doesn’t like Pamela. Pamela got her karma. I liked the wedding in this one and I liked how Ricky kissed Karen’s cheek. Scott didn’t even do that when he “married” Hannie.

Can I just say WTF at Lisa letting Karen deliberately be rude to Pamela on her birthday? Like Karen wears old clothes and doesn't brush her hair, then buys a super cheap present and sloppily wraps it? I think Lisa asks if she wants to buy another gift and Karen brushes her off. Like my mother would NEVER let me do that. As a kid, I was invited to birthday parties for kids in my class I wasn't super close with (was never invited to a bully's party) and I still went dressed nice with a nice gift. My mom was huge on manners and I can't believe Lisa was ok with Karen doing that.
As much as I can't stand Karen, her "wedding" to Ricky was cute. I like that they can always count on Natalie to play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star on the violin whenever they need nice music XD

If I went into the house of someone I hated and immediately saw a clown wandering around I would be looking like the Road Runner out the door. Ricky's face makeup was a lot of black. He looked like he was wearing sunglasses inside. Suspenders are kind of a quirky gift. I liked Andrew's asymmetrical hearts. Then he gave a kitten Valentine to Mandy and smiled to himself thinking about it. Andrew will get all the ladies with his teeth flossing and wooing with cats. Seth and Lisa gave each other single flowers. Did they shop at the same gas station? It was genuinely sad that Natalie sat in class trying not to cry. Wake up, Ms. Colman. I don't like you right now. Sam put a lot of effort into his gag gifts. Karen acted like Charlie ate a ton when he had two burgers, a large fry, and a large drink. The two burgers squished together are still smaller than the average bigger sandwich there. You can tell how kid-oriented the marketing used to be for McDonald's by the fact that Emily had never been there but knew and freaked out about Ronald. The school party was relatable and took me back. I only remember one "mailbox" that I made. It was a decorated shoebox with a hole cut into the lid. I had to stop reading for a minute to play the Valentine word game that they played. (Make as many words as you can with the letters in Valentine.) Karen and Natalie tied for first place with 15 words. I stopped at 20 when I could safely say that I was smarter than a 2nd grader. (5th grader, I don't know. ) I hope Karen and Ricky got married for real when they were like 30 and he upgraded her spider ring to something like this. That would be the end of a rom-com. Karen wanted to keep her last name. Solid choice. When I was her age I thought your name just automatically changed, lol.

That does sound like the 90s. Ugh, poor Natalie.
Getting engaged/married on Halloween with a spider ring. New life goal.

I grew up in the 90s and we always had to give valentines to every kid in the class to avoid stuff like what happened to Natalie. I just gave the valentines with my least favorite designs to the kids I didn't like XD

This book was written in the 90s. It was just bad manners. Karen delivered hers before class started, but most of the kids did it at the party. So Natalie not only got very little, but had to sit there watching people skip over her.
I was trying to remember what Valentines styles I gave out. I think probably Garfield one year, but I genuinely can’t remember.

I'm still not over Lisa letting Karen deliberately be rude to Pamela. Even if she's a bully, talk about super bad manners!
