This one is really cute. The rabbits sound adorable (though very naughty - reminds me of the goat we had for about a week) and it's so funny when Princess pees on Nancy and then when Karen "swears" (says all of the "upset words" she can think of ;D) after Princess chews up the furniture. I didn't care for the subplot of this one because Andrew really annoyed me. While I understood where he was coming from, I thought he was being really whiney and bratty (this is just my perception) and I could really relate to Karen wanting so badly to help him, even if she ended up going overboard. I'm like that too. ;D I like her list on "how not to be bossy" too and sometimes need to read it. ;D

I just read this recently. Granny really messed up in this one. You don't just buy a kid a pet without checking with the parents first. It made me sad when Lisa called around to pet shops trying to find a place that would take the bunnies and they were all overloaded with bunnies, chicks, and ducks that people didn't want. You hear about that every Easter, because HELLO, chicks become chickens and little duckies become big duckies and then they aren't cute and fun anymore. Other than that, this did have some funny moments in it.

I really liked this one. I thought it was a cute story and liked reading about Princess. Although I agree, Granny should have checked with the parents first.

Huh. I thought there was already a thread on this, because I know I've written out my thoughts on it before. I guess I only posted it on my livejournal though.
#83, Karen’s Bunny Pet: Princess and Spot Type: Bunnies Acquired: Granny gives them to the kids in their Easter baskets. Given up: Given to Andrew’s preschool class My thoughts: Granny should know better than to give bunnies without asking Lisa and Seth. Granny should know better than to give bunnies without any of the equipment needed to care for them. Lisa and Seth shouldn’t have expected Karen and Andrew to be completely responsible with their rabbits at all times, I mean, the things are living in laundry baskets for heaven’s sake, and Seth tells the kids he will be very angry if he finds that the rabbits have inappropriately chewed furniture again, and nobody ever teaches the kids how to hold the rabbits, and in one scene a neighbor is holding one by the scruff of its neck, and overall this book was just stupid in more ways that I can count. Also the rabbits are always hopping around the kids’ rooms, I can only imagine how much pee they got in their carpets, since just about every page mentions the rabbits peeing and pooping all over and Karen and Andrew being completely responsible for cleaning it all up and the whole thought grosses me out and I have to go wash my hands now.
It looks like I'm the only one who didn't think it was cute though. Maybe I was just in a bad mood when I read it last time, I'll have to reread soon and see if I like it more.

^I was definitely annoyed by a lot of things in the book (mostly Granny's stupidity), but I thought parts were funny too. I wish Hannie had gotten her wish to add a Honey the Bunny to her pet collection.

I think Granny should have gotten permission from Lisa and Seth before she decided to just give Karen and Andrew bunnies for Easter! Aside from that, I think there was some cute and funny parts to the book.

The rabbits sounded cute and they looked really cute on the cover. It's difficult for me to imagine the rabbits chewing up the furniture. It's like their teeth aren't sharp enough or they don't have enough teeth. While Granny had good intentions, she should've talked to Karen's parents about giving them the rabbits to have as pets. I did like reading about Princess and Spot and their antics, though.

Thanks Scrounge for the link. When I did a search for this book, it brought up an older thread that had been closed. Clicking on Karen's Bunny still does bring up Karen's Reindeer. Maybe the bunnies got tired of hopping and wanted a sleigh ride. I agree with what everyone else has already said. The bunnies did sound very cute and cuddly. I still wonder how Granny managed to hide the bunnies at least overnight from Lisa and Seth. Did she borrow their car on Saturday and then like Claudia with her treats, somehow sneak them (the rabbits) into the house unseen? I know nothing about bunnies other than one of my three most loved stuffed animal friends is a bunny, but just can't imagine being able to conceal one. Though this is Stoneybrook where poor Tigger was hidden in a closet for I think 5 days so a pair of bunnies would be easier to contain than that. Scrounge, ITA with what you said about Lisa and Seth and how once again (reminded me of Karen's Tattletale when Andrew and Karen were completely responsible for making sure Rocky and Midgie did not escape) put all the bunny care on their two young children. I normally am a huge Seth fan but thought he was horrible when he let Karen know if the bunnies caused future trouble he would be very upset. Maybe that just brought back some bad memories from my childhood. I can understand Granny living on a farm maybe not seeing how the rabbits would be much trouble but with any animal she should have first asked Lisa and Seth. Andrew's play was rather random. Karen had good intentions in wanting to help him with the play and also the food drive but it seemed like she was more concerned about wanting Andrew to be the best in his class than about helping Andrew. I also liked her list at the end and was glad the bunnies were able to live at Andrew's preschool. Do we ever hear of them again? I don't think we do and that's too bad, Princess and Spot were awfully cute.

I didn't like Lisa in this one at all. I felt like she really dropped the ball. Andrew's play was something Lisa should have helped him with. She should have been involved and helping him with his play and his costume so that she could put her foot down about Karen bossing him around and making him wear the too big pants that fell down so everyone saw his underwear. Karen's heart was in the right place because she did want to help Andrew but the thing is, she's not his boss, and shouldn't be allowed to just steamroll him.

^ITA, Scrounge. I also just had the thought that it was sort of strange Andrew and his classmates never practiced for the play (that we knew of). I could see Lisa and maybe one other parent helping out with that. I am very glad it was kept small and for and about the kids just that in my memory of helping preschooler's with plays, we did have some practices. I just really would have enjoyed a chapter that took place at Andrew's preschool.

I enjoy reading this book. Took back memories, when I used had a bunny. Her name was Rose, she was a mini lop. I was thinking, living on farm someday. Raise some farm animals. Bunnies will be included.
Granny should have asked, before giving an a live bunny to Karen & Andrew. From the pet store, saying they already have too much pets already. Sounds like the grandparents, didn't get permission from the parents, if they're grandchildren can have bunnies, chicks, or ducklings.
My grandparents, didn't give me no live bunnies, baby chicks, or ducklings. We mostly live in the apartments, at the time.
I laugh, when Karen's pants fall down, on Andrew, showing his Winnie-The-Pooh underwear.

This started out with Karen and Nancy being so excited to see the crocuses growing. According to Karen it's one of the best things about spring. I'm trying to picture two little girls just gushing about some random plants sprouting.
The name "Tommy Joe" the gerbil made me laugh. That combined with "Princess Cleopatra." Then here came Andrew with "Spot" and his play part "Fluffy." I would love to know what Karen and Andrew's future children's names would be.
The little house actually has 4 bedrooms. That sounds like a pretty good sized house to me.
The girls stuck the poor bunny in a Rollerblade and pushed it around the room. She "loved" it. The she peed on Nancy, which I loved. I liked how Karen nonchalantly said it had happened to her the day before. Princess was a peeing machine.
I'm not sure what the plot of Andrew's play was, but I love that they included family pets. Karen wanted him to practice his lines over and over... His line was "meow" lol. I want to know why Karen just happened to have tiger striped pants. Was she a little Claudia in the making? I'm not so sure that the illustration of Andrew on his knees in his underwear with his pants down would make it into a modern book.
It was nice that Andrew's class got the bunnies in the end. I never experienced a class pet. I feel like I missed out on something.
