I haven't read many CD books, but I got Amalia #1 in the mail and read it. I really like her, she seems really sweet and cool. I'm confused though, it seems as if she's good friends with Maggie, but doesn't really know Sunny and Dawn all that well. I thought the 4 of them plus Ducky were like one group? She puts Sunny and Dawn on her "maybe" list for who to buy Xmas gifts for. The bits about her bf (forgot his name) were really uncomfortable. My god what a freaking PSYCHO! I can't believe he would call her house 43781907431 times knowing her parents were there. Yikes. Her sister seemed cool too.

Haha, yes, he was a total psycho. I thought he was normal in Maggie #1 until I read Amalia's first diary. Whoa.
I think she's not-so-good friends yet with the others because she gets to know Maggie first, and it's still early on in the series. In Maggie #1 she asks Maggie to try out for James' band, and she gets in, and they bond over Maggie's crush on Justin, Amalia's crush on James, and so on.

I liked Amalia as well. I liked how in her journal entries she would include drawings too, I found them entertaining.
I agree, her boyfriend was a pyscho! Scared me a little.

The drawings were done by the real-life Steig Retlin.

I've only read Amalia #1... I enjoyed hers, but I'm more partial to Dawn/Sunny/Ducky, so I tend to stick to theirs, just because I find them more interesting for whatever reason.

I've never read a CA Diary by Amelia. What is she like? If I didn't care for any of the other ones because I didn't like the characters, would Amelia be any different? What issues does she face?

Amalia in her first diary has an abusive boyfriend, and then in the second, she's still healing from that and helps Maggie through her anorexia, and then in the third diary, she's faced with racism, but it's very different from the Jessi-version of racism because it's like... it never even occurred to her. And she's actually like roughed up and spat on in the course of it.
She's generally an upbeat character who tries not to let these things get her down. And she hates it that she lets negative things in her life affect how she sees herself and how she lives her life and she tries to move past them.

^ I think that is one of the reasons I like her, I liked how she tried to help out Maggie and also how she tried to move past the negative aspects of life. I wish I had some of her in me at times.

I've only read three CD's, ever - #1 of Ducky's, Dawn's, and Amalia's. I really liked Amalia in her book. I agree that her boyfriend is completely wacko, and Amalia sounds like an awesome, sweet person, and I'd really like to get to know her better

I like Amalia too. She's nice and a good friend. Her diary illistrations are cute, and I liked how she helped maggie sort out her problems and overcome her eating disorder, by going to therapy with her and stuff.

I like Amalia. It was interesting to read her journals because of her drawings. I think she might be my favorite character in the California Diaries.

I just love Amalia a lot! I can really relate to her a lot, and her boyfriend from her 1st Diary makes me want to punch the heck out of him for treating her like that. Maggie and Ducky are my other favorites from the series.

I need to read Amalia, because she seems like a decent character. Her books just about put me to sleep the first time I read them, but I should try again.
I'll reread when RL is less busy, because I never really gave her books a chance.
