I'm going to do if the girls visited st. petersburg russia Mary Anne would be Miss InTourist and go to every historical thing. Claudia, of course, would go crazy over all the art in the hermitage. there's also a vibrant arts scene in the city that i think she would get involved with. She would not like the local cuisine and eat a lot of junk food. There's not as much shopping as, say, Moscow, but Stacey would satisfy her needs with all the designer stores on Nevsky and the Mega malls at dybenko and parnas, which are huge and have stuff like topshop that she would have a lot of fun with. She would also find a russian boyfriend in like, a day. Kristy and Abby would go to a Zenit game, not prepared for what going to a Zenit game entails... i.e., drunken violence. They would also participate in pick up soccer games in parks. Kristy would be shocked to learn that grandmothers pretty much fill the role of baby-sitters, and her attempts to import the BSC fail. abby would also probably pull some feminist stuff, and get upset when a man tries to carry her suitcase for her or something. Dawn would be aghast at the pollution and the fact that people think being vegetarian means you eat chicken and fish, and she would try to do something for all the stray dogs and homeless, but probably she would just end up getting all her stuff stolen by those she was trying to help. mallory would go to every writer's house. and become convinced that she was also related to dostoevsky or pushkin or nabokov. she also might pull her spy stuff again and end up in the offices of the police who would be very very mean to her. they will have never heard of louise fitzhugh. jessi would have a terrible time because black people are, sadly, harrassed all the time and there's a huge problem with fascist violence--people getting stabbed etc. so i don't think jessi would have a good time. This would make an excellent Super Special... "BSC in the CIS." it might be more dramatic than funny though.

^ ;D Love the possibilities. St. Petersburg sounds like an interesting place to visit and a great place for a Super Special ;D (but it also sounds like Jessi might want to stay back in Stoneybrook...)

You should go... I loved being there and hope to return to live there for another couple of years as soon I have my degree. I should warn you, however, that it took me over two months to genuinely like being there. Russia is a very strange and... somewhat enchanting? place. i have this guide to russian swearing and it has a list of things you should know about moscow before you go and the last is "leave as soon as you can; if you stay on too long, you'll get used to moscow and then you'll be miserable when you go home because you miss it so much." replace "moscow" with "petersburg" and you'll get my current mental state, having recently returned from a year in petersburg. I don't know about what it's like to be a tourist who doesn't speak russian though

I would like to go but don't think it's going to be possible for a few years. I spent two weeks in China my junior year of college and have always wished I could go back there.

Hmmmm...well i'm originally from st. Louis..so I prefer to talk about that place rather than Houston... St. Louis is a big sports town... Kristy would probably want to see a Cardinals game, or a Rams or Blues game depending on the season (did she ever mention liking hockey or football?) ...ABby too. Claud would love the art museum Mallory and Jessi would LOVE to go to Grants Farm and see the Clydesdales...and the zoo too of course. I'm sure Mary Anne would go up into the arch and start quoting facts about how it's the tallest national monument in the country, and it's 630 feet tall, and the bases are 630 feet apart... i'm starting to sound like her... i really dont know about anyone else.... Stacey would probably like the GAlleria Mall...and start comparing the "metrolink" to NYC's subway...even thoug it's aboveground... Um well.....I'm from St. Louis(well, the IL side--about 15 minutes away) and that was dead on!!! I had no idea you were from here originally I got real excited.

Wow, I can just imagine the BSC Down Under! Instead of just brisbane (where I come from) I might say what I can see them doing in the whole country. Kristy would have to go to an AFL game (or an NRL game). Claudia and Stacey would prolly enjoy Sydney and melbourne and the Museums and shopping there. MA would love anywhere I imagine, although we don't have too much recorded history here. Well Dawn might be happy with my city Brisbane, for being the best water conserving country in the world (our average daily consumption per person is half of most of US, but thats cause we are in a drought, and have laws enforced about water use). She'll prolly also like seeing Uluru (the biggest rock in the world). Jessi would prolly enjoy performances at the Sydney Opera House... Mal... Hmmm Bit stumped on the rest, but I'm sure there's more.

^ The biggest rock in the world? I'm actually amazed that someone took the time to figure that out. I wanna go see it!

^ What I want to know is who measured all of them and if there are stats listed on rock sizes somewhere ;D If the girls came to my town in the winter, they would probably all be really bored. We do have ski resorts several hours north but the town basically goes dead after the tourists (most of whom are "Chicago people" ;D) leave in the summer. Anyone from New England? That is where I would really like to visit this time of year. I love seeing the colors on the trees in upstate NY, MA and NH and would like to go to VT.

San Francisco, CA
The BSC also visited in Super Special 14. Kristy visited in FF 5.
Kristy- probably not visit her dad, or AT&T Park for that matter (since she saw her dad at a game there in SS14). Seriously, I have no idea what she'd like. She would probably enjoy touristy things with Mary Anne.
Mary Anne- Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, cable cars, Golden Gate Bridge, etc.
Claudia- Mission district. They have lots of little galleries. Haight Ashbury, since they have lots of vintage clothes. Both districts have a lot of artists types. There's also lots of museums in SF.
Stacey - Haight Ashbury also. They have lots of non vintage shopping as well. She probably wouldn't like SF's Union Square shopping area, since it has mainly the same stores as NYC.
Mallory - 826 Valencia for writing classes.
Jessi - SF Ballet
Abby - comedy club? feminist soccer game? jewish community center.
Dawn - she's also been to SF, and made a list of stuff she wanted to see in her autobiography. So reference autobiography. she would like SF because it tries to be "green."

I would definitely take Kristy and Abby to a baseball game. Probably a spring training game so Kristy could see the Yankees or whoever she likes. (Assuming they are one of the teams who does their spring training in Arizona.) And like sotypical said, I'd definitely take Dawn to Green, a vegan restaurant that I love! Hopefully Sunny would be in town with Dawn so she could come too. I'd take Mary Anne to one of the little historic "ghost towns" that we have. Oh and Dawn would like that too I guess. MA would like the historical/tourist aspect and Dawn would like the "mysterious" aspect.

Thinking about my hometown...surely MA would love the old library, and Dawn would surely turn up some ghost story about the oldest houses (which are from the 1870s, but the only hint of a ghost thing I've ever heard is from a bit newer house.)

If they visited my hometown (grand Rapids, MI) they would be bored stiff. But just for the heck of it...
Kristy would go to a White Caps (a minor league baseball team) game
Claudia might take a class or two at Kendell College of Art and Design. She would enjoy scavenger hunt downtown, a pretty cool thrift store, it's also right in the "Artist" part of town that has a couple galleries and artist lofts. It's also very near to the Grand Rapids Art Museum. (everything above is in a very short walking distance from everything else)
Mary Ann would go to John ball park zoo to look at the big cats (if we even have any left) she also would enjoy the Gerald R. Ford Museum and the Van Andel Museum for the historical value. Not too much else that's very touristy...
Stacey would be shocked to find that there is no Bloomingdales or Saks fifth avenue and would spend most of her time at Macy's which is really the "nicest" store we have. She might also enjoy going to Little Bohemia (my favorite boutique) with Claudia, though she would probably prefer the mall location to the downtown.
Dawn would like Eastown. There's a fabulous Indian Restaurant with lots of veg options, Marie Catribs also has lots of veg options and uses local ingredients, Gaia is a vegetarian restaurant, . Clothing matters with organic ethically made clothing, a couple of yoga studios (I don't know that Dawn would like yoga, but I imagine that she would) And the people there tend to be more open minded and liberal than the rest of the city. Also not in East Town but near by is my FAVORITE restaurant, Little Africa (Ethiopian food) totally vegan and absolutely delicious.
Mallory might like the library, it's pretty big. Lots of card catalog debating to be had (though it's electronic)
Jessi would definitely take class at the Grand Rapids Ballet
Abby seems to have a blast wherever she is, I'm sure she'd think of something.

^ Loved reading about Grand Rapids as I go there (actually haven't been for a while) quite frequently. It's one of the closest malls and only a little over 1 hr away. Also my aunt lives really close to there. Agree the girls would probably be bored. But they could come to one of the lake towns for the tourist stuff in summer. Or maybe nearby Holland for the Tulip festival (though I can't see them getting into that ;D I've never even been and it's only about 45 min away)
