i've only ever been to Grand Rapids Minnesota..home of Judy Garland... haha The BSC might like to go there because of their obsession (or AMM's obsession whichever you may want to call it) with the wizard of oz

^ Loved reading about Grand Rapids as I go there (actually haven't been for a while) quite frequently. It's one of the closest malls and only a little over 1 hr away. Also my aunt lives really close to there. Agree the girls would probably be bored. But they could come to one of the lake towns for the tourist stuff in summer. Or maybe nearby Holland for the Tulip festival (though I can't see them getting into that ;D I've never even been and it's only about 45 min away) Ah the Tulip Festival! I went once when I was very small, (my dad worked in Holland) and I got a kick out of the wooden shoes. I think some of the /BSC's charges might like it. Grand Rapids has a huge dutch population that gets really into it, but I'm not dutch (well, a small amount) so I've never quite understood it.

I live in a small town in Maryland, but not far from D.C. There's a college that is settled next to the historical section of town, which is right on the water (the county I live in is on a peninsula, so we're surrounded by water -- it's beautiful!). I could see Dawn wanting to go at night to this graveyard to check out the ghosts (people claim they've seen them), and Stacey and Claudia would want to hang out at the college, drink coffee and look for cute guys. Mary Anne would want to check out the little shops and boutiques on the water, and I guess Kristy would tag along, and eventually organize a group outing on a boat. Mallory would discover the used bookstore and refuse to leave. Jessi would um....I don't know what Jessi would do. Jessi might notice the navy base and consider a career as a pilot, and then realize her true love for ballet, once again.

I'm from Ottawa, Canada. I think the girls would have fun visiting, at least for a few days. It's not a huge city, but I think they'd enjoy it. Kristy: I'd take her to a Sens game. I don't know if she ever cared for hockey, but I always have tons of fun at Sens games - and I'm not into sports at all. Claudia: The art galleries! Easy. Mary Anne: Tour around the city, especially the Parliament buildings. They're really cool and surprisingly interesting to learn about. Stacey: The museums! There are tons of museums in Ottawa, but I'd especially recommend the museum of Civilization and the Museum of Nature (it has dinosaur bones, among other things...it was my favourite museum as a kid). She'd also like the Rideau Centre, the big shopping mall downtown, not to mention the Byward Market and all of the funky little shops around the city. Jessi: She could see a performance at the National Arts Centre and probably be offered a job, but she'd turn it down because she's only 11. Mal: Could spy on people. Hang outside the Parliament buildings and try to spy on the prime minister, or something. Dawn: I don't know what she'd do. She'd like the Byward Market, since you can buy tons of fresh fruits and veggies. I guess she could also organize a protest. I haven't done Ottawa much justice in this post. It really is a beautiful city, especially in the summer time. It's fairly small, but it's clean and has a European feel to it. If you ever get the chance to visit, take it. ;D (In case you want more info/pictures

^ I think I'd like hanging out with Mallory. ;D I've considered visiting Canada a few times since we're actually not too far away so maybe Ottawa will be my destination. ;D

Looks like a nice place, fluffycakes. My husband is going to Toronto next week on a work trip. Of course I don't get to go this time.

Well, someone already got to my hometown - Grand Rapids/East Grand Rapids (I'm from EGR, but now my parents live in GR. And technically, right now, so do I :-( ) and oddly enough, all my favorite places have been mentioned. Except for this cool vegetarian restaurant that may or may not be closed on Cherry Street.Oh, and I guess we could hang out on Reeds Lake in my grandma's boat. There's no island to get shipwrecked on, so we'll be safe. So I'll talk about where I have been living - Ann Arbor!
I would show Dawn to all my favorite vegetarian restaurants. Then we could hang out at the quad. Mallory could find some fellow writers there as well. Claudia would get into the Art Fair, actually I think everyone would. I'm sure Abby and Kristy could find fellowship at some U of M sport event. There's also the Detroit Institute of Art, which isn't that far away, and all of the other non violent things that Detroit has to offer (if you know, will you let me know?)
Oooh, and I could go to Somerset with Stacey. Which really isn't that great, compared to Fifth Ave, or Chicago. But it's still decent. Jessi would go to the U of M ballet/ performing arts center - or she could go to the stepshows at the frats. I don't know that much about ballet here - I usually do my ballet watching in GR or Chicago, unless it's a student show. I think there's a decent ballet company in Detroit too - I don't really know, I try to stay away from D-town as much as possible. There's also Hash Bash, which isn't as popular as it used to be, and I also don't really see the BSC loving that event.
Is that everyone?
There are so many options! The Super Specials could have gone on indefinitely. I went to Bangkok a few years ago, and I can just picture them butchering Thai... They could take an extra special trip to the MIddle East and teach us all about diversity and oil or something! There's also a billion cities in the US for them to visit, such as Atlanta or Austin or New Orleans. I haven't read BSC in the USA yet, so don't be mad at me if they actually have been there. Chicago would be cool too, or even Detroit. I'd also like to read about the BSC camping (like for real camping, with a backpack and a tent).

You should definitely visit! I recommend coming in the summer, but there are things to do in the winter as well. Skating on the canal and looking at the ice sculptures is really fun. It just gets a bit cold during the winter! And lyricalangel, too bad about not getting to go to Toronto with your hubby. Toronto's a fun place to visit, too. I love this thread! It's cool to read about where you guys are from!

I live in the Middle East (have lived there for nearly 10 years!) and imagining the BSC here is quite amusing! Claudia would probably visit all the mosques and special buildings and sketch them for art (that's what a lot of the art students at school here do). Stacey would go to the shopping mall (although she'd definitely think it was inferior to New York... but then again she could drive up to Dubai!). Or she and Dawn would probably hit the lovely beaches here, maybe trying scuba diving or sailing. Mary Anne seems quite interested in history and cultural places (considering her role as Historian in the Winter Special and her interest in visiting Smithstown in Sea City), so she'd probably visit the markets (known as souqs). Mallory would probably do the same... or she'd go around spying on people ;D Kristy would probably go camping wanting to do lots of activities like going to the caves, the mountains, the sand dunes, etc... Jessi... well Jessi would probably meet some random dancers and learn a new dance style as that's all Jessi tends to do in super specials... and accuse someone of racism I'd imagine Without a doubt, they'll get involved with kids somehow! And at least one will meet their true LUV ;D

^ The Middle East would make a very unusual and good super special. Really different from any of the other ones. Where exactly are you in the Middle East, liss? How easy is it for tourists to visit? (I know nothing about current events or traveling globally. ;D)

Oh cool, some people with connections to Holland as well on here!
I grew up near Amsterdam. If the BSC came to visit, I think Mallory would definitely check out the Anne Frank house because of the whole diary thing, and Claudia would check out the Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums. I can't think of much else to do in the city that would be appropriate for 13/11 year old girls, but if any of them diiiid decide to rebel and smoke a little green, I'm thinking it would either be Dawn or Stacey. Then again Dawn doesn't even eat candy, let alone pollute her lungs - and if Stacey got the munchies she'd really have to watch out for her blood sugar...
