I think that was probably it. I never pictured Dawn and Stacey as looking all that much alike because for some reason, I picture Stacey as shorter (not sure why though) with shorter, curlier, more golden hair and Dawn with much longer blonde hair and maybe a paler complexion and freckles. I have no idea where I really got those ideas from, though. I think MA and Kristy (at least how I picture them) have the same shade brown hair and same shade brown eyes while I picture Dawn being much "paler" than Stacey in everything. Yeah, I agree with this.

^ Glad to know there must have been something somewhere that made me picture them that way. ;D

I also agree, aln. Well except I don't picture Dawn as having pale skin, I think she is pretty tan in my mind (ie Dawn on the Coast cover), but I do think of her as being a lot more long and slender than Stacey.

^ I guess I don't really picture Dawn as being pale - like not tan - but just pale features (hair, eyes, etc) if that makes sense. She probably is as tan as someone of that complexion can be.

To be fair, I think the Pikes' rationalization on that one was that they didn't think Mallory was old enough to wear contacts. My parents were the same way -- they didn't let me get them until I was in high school. They actually bought me a car before they bought me contacts. It was a ten-year-old Saturn, but I'd guess it cost...maybe $10 more than my eye exam and first supply of contacts I was also a total Mallory, now that I think about it, because I had glasses and long, straggly hair for all of middle school and nearly all of high school, and the unruly hair didn't go until I was my 20s! (My dad was attached to my long hair, for some weird reason. I didn't feel comfortable cutting it off until well after I moved out.) I think an 80s size 6 is like a size 2 now? Maybe a 0? I can wear a current 6 in several clothing lines...and I'm pretty sturdy ;D

Yeah, it was never mentioned that money was the reason Mal was denied contacts. She was apparently going to be allowed to have them at age 15.

^ I knew lots (okay, two) of girls with contacts in grade school, but my parents were like Mal's. I had to wait until high school. Then I turned 12, and they gave in. They really didn't think I was responsible enough to keep them clean and stuff. There was also this weird thing back then about kids eyes not being ready for contacts, but I think that's all changed now. I don't think it was money that was the issue with Mal.

My parents made me wait until I was 14 to get contacts. I was originally supposed to wait until I was 16 but I complained so much that they finally gave in.

I think where I was getting the idea of Dawn being pale was from her comment about being really light skinned (or something to that effect) at the beginning of Dawn and the Older Boy. I'm not even sure based on that comment that she would get very tan. Another cover inconsistency on Dawn on the Coast is possible. ;D

I can understand because contacts can be a real pain. When I first got mine it took me at least 5 minutes to get them in correctly. Then there were days were I couldn't wear them comfortably at all. I think in one of the Little Sister books Karen says she wants contacts but her parents won't let her get them until she's 14.

I picture dawn being light skinned and having naturally platinum blonde hair.
I don't think she would tan because she is to concious of those things. She only eats healthy, etc. I really don't think she would risk skin cancer or wrinkles.
