On re reading the series, I think it's so strange that Mary Anne struggled in home ec and English. Maybe I'm stereotyping or simplifying her character too much, but I would assume those were the classes she'd do well in. I also can't deal with the fact that Mal copied off Jessi for English. There is no way Mal was doing poorly in English.
A few weird things I noticed: can't remember which Claud book, but she mentions she doesn't mind gym. I was kind of pleasantly surprised by that! It's nice that it's not like each BSC member is a total jock or completely unatheltic. Makes sense, since she likes skiing and sailing.
I kind of hate that almost all club members are straight-A or almost straight-A students. Kristy mentions she got straight A's in #6, but tbh, that feels in character for her. I can imagine Mary Anne being like this too. Mal is as well in a later book, Dawn mentions she was at her California school in BSC Remembers, I think Stacey was before being diagnosed, Shannon is a star student minus PURPOSELY FAILING FRENCH (I still can't deal with that, sorry) etc. And then Claud struggles with school and to a lesser extent, Abby does as well. Why couldn't more of them be just decent students with grades ranging from Cs to As? Idk, it's kind of a dumb complaint, but it would be more realistic. For the most part, they don't seem to mind school either (with the exception of Claudia). I was a very good student but found school to be a snoozefest.
One annoying thing I'm noticing now that I'm in the 90s- in the beginning, Kristy wasn't a nerd or anything, but seemed really smart, book smart as well. In later books, especially those by Peter L, she seems kind of like a jock stereotype. Just has sports (and babysitting) on the brain. Early Kristy wasn't like that...
