What do we all think of Charlotte? Personally, i always thought she was rather boring. I couldn't relate to her at all, because I wasn't shy, so she didn't interest me.

I'm not crazy about Charlotte either. She bored me and even though I am also shy I could not relate to her at all. She was boring and always bragging about skipping a grade and being so smart and everything. Karen was spoiled but at least she wasn't as look at me I'm soooooo smart and everyone loooooooves me now, like Charlotte. I kind of liked the bonding between Stacey and Charlotte, though, although I don't really see any examples of Stacey really helping her to be herself.

When I was a kid Charlotte bored me, but now I like her. She seems like a sweet kid. Her relationship with Stacey is nice, but it's definitely a case of the authors telling us that they are "so close, almost like sisters" rather than showing us.

I liked her as a kid. Possibly because Stacey was my favorite, and so Charlotte was by extension. Now, I'm kind of indifferent. She's sweet though. I don't think she brags, she's just really excited about having friends now. Heh.
Do you really think the skipping a grade thing would work though? Wouldn't the kids in her new class think she's even more of a teacher's pet because she's younger and skipped a grade? Or do they just magically not care as long as she doesn't know more than them? And ironically, isn't Becca (her new best friend) a lowly second grader? So if she'd just waited a few more books, she would have been fine.

Or do they just magically not care as long as she doesn't know more than them? In my experience (I skipped 1st), the kids didn't care so much because you are not necessarily "teacher's pet." In fact, I got the attitude from the teachers a lot that they were doing me a favor by "letting" me be in their class. As for not knowing more than them, I found that some kids made fun of the smart kids no matter how old they were. I wish they wouldn't have brought it up so much about Charlotte skipping a grade because the books almost made it seem like this was why she was shy and everything. I think this is just her personality.

I liked Charlotte. I don't remember her actually bragging about skipping a grade... It's always the baby-sitter giving us background information about her that tells us she's smart; Charlotte herself never says "I'm so smart and I skipped a grade!". At least, I don't think she does.
It seemed kinda strange that out of all the BSCers to have a bond with, it was Stacey. You'd think that she'd have more in common with Mary Anne.

Well, I always thought they picked Stacey because she seems more outgoing than MA, and would more likely bring her out of her shell. I dunno. Charlotte always seemed so cute to me.

I liked Charlotte in the pre-Becca days, when she was the shy little kid attached to Stacey. I think their relationship was sweet.

I thought that there was nothing wrong with shyness in a kid. Why did they have to make her less shy? And do all of the main little kids have best friends?

Hm, I think so... The boys, not so much, but they still had close friends. But there was Vanessa and Haley, Charlotte and Becca... And okay, I can't think of any others.

I thought that there was nothing wrong with shyness in a kid. Why did they have to make her less shy? I guess her being shy, and therefore unable to make friends, was making her miserable and they were trying to help. Not that it's their responsibility or anything.

Whenever a kid has a problem, the BSC makes it their mission to solve it. *Everything* is their responsibility!

So that's why they got their own comic book! Sorry, graphic novel.
Heyy, macca's sitting for Charlotte now. Impressive.

I found Charlotte extremely boring. She'd be the kind of kid I'd want to sit for, but to read about? Not so much.
