^ I would agree with Dee being in her early thirties - I could see her having Mallory around 22 or 23. Same with Mrs. Newton - I could see her being that young when she had Jamie which would put her slightly older than me in the books! I couldn't see her being older than twenty-eight!

Somehow thinking about the parents ages makes them seem more real. Because we rarely see them firsthand for very long, especially the husbands, in my mind, the client parents sort of just "are," if that makes sense. Now, I'm trying to picture the Newtons taking a walk with Jamie and Lucy or the Perkins family out shopping.
This really makes me wish there had been more family moments both with the sitters and the clients. It also raises the question (yet again) of how very strange it was that other than at that restaurant in Bad Girls, was it with Jamie? The sitters never run into any of their charges or the parents in town. I'd have loved reading about a random meeting or even a sitting job being set up that way. I know this got off topic to the parents ages just sort of relates!

I agree, it would have been nice seeing the parents interacting with the kids more... And it's also weird thinking we are now closer in age to the parents than the kids or BSC!

I know this got off topic to the parents ages just sort of relates! They'd be breaking the rules if they set up sitting jobs while bumping into clients! Whoever it was would have to rush to a phone and call all the other girls to offer the job around first, lol. You are right, they never seem to run into their clients or charges when they're out and about, which is odd for a small town. I guess it wasn't something that Ann or the ghostwriters felt the need to include, but it would have been cute to read about. When I'm at Target or out to eat, and I see kids who know me from the library it can be funny, because they get all shy about it. Kind of like the time Stacey had to take Charlotte to a BSC meeting and she was a little shy about seeing all the girls together.

^ That would be hysterical to read about. Exactly. Stoneybrook is so small, the girls must venture out of SMS and their (and client) homes sometimes. We know they do, to track down criminals or candy but you know, in general. It's just hard to believe after 14 years (13 8th, 1 7th) there wasn't one other random meeting by parent or sitter. Actually that could have been fun to read about: a charge (with their parents) running into one of the girls' parents and telling them about the last sitting job or the girl as a sitter in general.

I don't have strong feelings about Jamie one way or another. He's cute, but not my favorite client to read about.

I adore Jamie Newton! He always seemed so adorable, in my opinion. I especially love Jamie in the early books (Kristy's Great Idea, The Truth about Stacey, Mary Anne Saves the Day, Kristy's Big Day, Claudia and Mean Janine comes to mind). I love how big brotherly and protective he is of Lucy.

Are the only pictures of Jamie besides the backwards one at the end of Island Adventure, on the cover of Island Adventure, Bad Luck Mystery, and Pet Sitter? Thank you

Thanks, Candykane. I have the new cover version to this book: And didn't realize. I Google-d and here is Jamie on the original: This picture makes Claudia even worse in that scene, poor Jamie.

I feel like I've seen Jamie on more covers, lol.
I wonder why Myriah and Gabbie weren't depicted more.

I think Jamie is overused. He's cute, though. The thing is, he was one of the club's first charges. I remember their first jobs - Stacey babysat for David Michael, Kristy accidentally ended up dogsitting for Pinky and Buffy, Mary Anne babysat for Karen and Andrew, and Claudia babysat for Jamie and his cousins. Come to think of it, did Jamie's cousins ever show up after the second book? Back to Jamie. He's a sweet enough kid, but he's not really interesting, and far too overused.

^^They did, but it was also an earlyish book. The Complete Guide seems to suggest it was #23, Dawn on the Coast, and that was the last time the club ever sat for Jamie's cousins.

Did the baby-sitters agency let him outside by himself without a hat or mittens, lilafowler? Yes, they did. They told Mrs Newton about the agency's irresponsibility after seeing Jamie playing next to the road without anything protective from the weather.

Jamie was pretty cool to read about for me, even if he had those moments where he would be whiny or grumpy..it always cracked me up when he said "King Corn" instead of King Kong.
