Is it Haley or Hayley? I'm not at home so can't check, but I see both pop up on the boards all the time.

I don't really like the Braddocks, either. I don't like Haley for the reasons many of you mentioned - she always appeared very manly in my mind, so as a kid that was pretty off-putting. I've never read Jessi's Secret Language, so all I've ever seen of the Braddocks is from random sitting jobs, and the 924034 carnivals/outings/parties the BSC has put on.
As for Matt...I can't make up my mind about him. He seems like a pretty sweet kid, but he doesn't really seem to have personality.
I always pronounced it "Hayley." I actually think "Hallie" is a cute name, but it wouldn't suit that mannish person I always think of when I think of Haley.

Actually, I always pronounced it that way too. It never occurred to me that it might be like "Hallie."

i think it's like hayley because her asl "nickname" is supposed to remind one of haley's comet.

Yeah I've always pronounced it Hayley too. I really don't like the spelling of "Haley," it looks kinda odd.

^ That's why I've always spelled it wrong, probably ;D. And because a few of my friends (actually everyone else I know with that name) spell it Hayley so I guess I just overlooked that it didn't have a second "y".

I don't like her name at all. My older sister almost named her baby (well she's not a baby anymore, she's 8) Haley/Hayley/whatever but thankfully went with Liliana instead. For some reason haley sounds like a horses name to me. Or a dogs name.

^ ;D I actually knew a horse named Hayley and it was a psycho horse ;D The name always makes me think of that but I don't mind it because I liked "Hayley Vaughn" (Kelly Ripa) on All My Children.

In my head start class last year we had 3 haleys. Each one was spelled different. It got rather confusing.

I like the name Hayley because there was someone with that name on the old show Kids Incorporated. I liked her, so I liked her name (oh, the logic of a six year old).

I've always wondered why Haley was a cheerleeder instead of a player on the Krushers. It would have made sense if she would have played since she did play baseball several times that I remember when the kids were all just practicing (not at official "practices"). Was her reason or reasons ever mentioned? Maybe she wanted to be with Vanessa or maybe she thought it would be easier to translate for Matt (though it seems like the opposite would be true).

maybe being a cheerleader was more appealing to her? i'm surprised carolyn around wasn't a cheerleader actually, since she was in a "clique" with those girls.

^ Agree. Always thought it was weird that the Arnolds weren't usually involved with the Krushers. Then in some of the books, though, I remember mentions of them playing. I was always like "they're not on the team!"

I just read Jessi's Secret Language for the first time and have a totally new opinion of Matt. In this book at least, he was so, so cute! When he gave Jessi a hug and told her he loves her and she's his best grown-up friend, I totally melted. So sweet!
Too bad we don't really see much of that - if any - in pretty much all the other books. Matt seems like a great kid, too bad the fact that he's deaf kinda took over his personality later on.
