^I loved Matt in that book, too, but I always like him. In that one, though, Haley seemed much nicer and I could understand a lot of her feelings better. Instead of wanting to shake her like usual, I actually felt for her and liked her okay. I also really liked Mrs. Braddock in this one and wish she would have been mentioned more (other than just in passing) in the other books. I think a relationship between her and Jessi would have been interesting.

I liked Haley but I can't remember why... I haven't read a book about her in ages!

I feel like MRs. Braddock reminds me of some other Stoneybrook mother, but I can't quite put my finger on who. Some other very down-to-earth, competent mama.

That sounds right. And I expect, although I don't think we know her at all, Mrs. Papadakis is similar.

I liked Matt and Haley, and I like the name Haley. I don't know why. I did not like her haircut though. No one needs a mullet.
I'm thinking that in Real Life people would want and try to be friends with Matt but it wouldn't really work out and the other kids would get a little frustrated. I think that because there is so much pressure on kids now (and to some extent whenI was a kid) to make friends with people who were previously thought of as "different" or "weird"

I liked Matt okay in "Secret Language," but I didn't really like Haley. Matt seemed like a really nice kid.

I liked Haley's conversation with Jessi in the first Jessi book. I thought that her feelings towards Matt were realistic, like she loves him and she's proud of him but she resents him at times, such as when she has to stand up for him. I didn't like her in Claudia and the Liittle Liar. I guess it's because she never gave the club any problems before so when she starts spreading rumors and lies in the books, it's OOC. As for Matt, he's just there to me.

So I read this somewhere on the boards, I think, but was Matt Braddock in one of the BSC television show episodes? I read somewhere that he helped solve a mystery by spying and listening on some kids or something. But how can Matt spy and listen, since he can't hear?

I may be imagining this but didn't someone say in Jessi's Secret Language that Matt could hear some sounds if they're really loud? Maybe that's how but it's been forever since I read Jessi's Secret Language.

Still, it wouldn't make sense for Matt to hear kids maybe whispering or talking about secret plans (or a crime or whatever it was, I haven't seen the episode). Maybe he was reading their lips?

The episode was actually a mystery about how a bunch of the clients' secrets/private conversations were being made public. It turned out that Matt had learned how to lip read and didn't really understand that he was "overhearing" things that weren't his business to be made public. The very short thread for that episode: babysittersclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=3937

I was interested in Matt and Haley in Secret Language. Matt's deafness is interesting and relatable as I am partially deaf. As for Haley, I like it when she's so protective of her brother and is always standing up for him. I do not like her haircut and the fact she looks like a ugly boy in the illustrations. Her name never bothered me though it's not one of my favorites (my mom was going to name me that before going on a different one thank goodness!!) Haley did get annoying. Matt just got boring. He was just deaf and a softball player, and that's it. I did like Mrs. Braddock in secret language. She was so involved with Jessi and her kids. She was down to earth, sort of like Mrs. Newton. Too bad she wasn't portrayed much later on.
