I kind of like the Barretts, but I wish the DeWitts had never come along because the whole Barrett/DeWitt thing bores me. I also feel this way. I can't stand the Barrett/DeWitt combo. Maybe the DeWitts alone would be okay but it seems like all they do when with the Barretts is fight. I like the Barretts pre-DeWitt days though, especially in Dawn and the Impossible Three and Mallory and the Mystery Diary - my 2 favorite books

I also didn't like the Barrett-DeWitts, I much preferred the Barretts on their own. Stoneybrook's version of the Brady Bunch, yay. That's okay, we already have the Pikes! Their blended family just seemed too chaotic to me.

It was yet another huge or blended family to add to the great melting pot known as Stoneybrook. How many did they actually need?

The Thomas-Brewers were more than enough for me. The Pikes weren't as bad because that was natural (natural stupidity on their parents' part for having 8 kids so close in age On the topic of the Barretts, I was just thinking about how Buddy and Suzi sometimes say some of the cutest things. One of my favorites is when they talk about how Marnie makes the "Ham face". I wonder if this is related to the fact that their dad (and Buddy, too, since he is a Jr.) is named Hamilton.

^never thought of that, aln. I always wondered where the heck the "ham face" came from. It sounds really cute though, I love Marnie. I loved when they had to get rid of Pow and Buddy suggested they get rid of Marnie instead cause they'd had Pow longer, lol.

Good point aln. I never understood that either. Every time it was mentioned I always pictured a slab of meat.

^Ha Ha! Love it, lyricalangel. This is how I pictured it too before making the possible connection.

I don't exactly picture a slab of meat, but I do picture her face as being really, really pink when she does it.

I don't exactly picture a slab of meat, but I do picture her face as being really, really pink when she does it. That's what I pictured, too. Except now I'm going to picture her head morphing into a ham every time. Thanks, lyricalangel

I'm sorry. I'm rereading Dawn and the Impossible Three right now so I'm having fun picturing the ham face.

I just reread Impossible Three and couldn't stop laughing as the Ham face is described several times. It sounds so cute and I can just picture Marnie's little nose wrinkling up. I love the Barretts in this book. The girls, especially, always sound so cuddly and sweet. Also noticed that it was mentioned that Marnie was 1 and 1/2 so this makes sense that she is younger than other toddlers, like Emily who I picture as being almost 3. I think I like the Barretts so much because they were central characters in some of the first BSC books that I read. That might be what makes me like the Pikes so much, too. Ah, nostalgia...

Although this book is set in 7th grade, so she'd have turned two in the rest of the books.

I really like the Barrett kids in Maid Mary Anne, especially Suzi. It's so cute how she reads to Pow and Marnie. Usually, I can't stand dogs but reading about Suzi rubbing his ear on her face made even me say "awww" ;D

I actually like the Barret kids. Marnie and Suzi both sound like adorable kids, I am kind of indifferent on Buddy though.
I could never figure out the ham face either...it always confused me when I was younger.

The Baretts are cute kids, I especially like Suzi in the movie.
