I would have thought that a balanced breakfast for Mrs Barrett was a fruit-flavoured Pop Tart with a glass of orange soda. Sounds accurate. She'd have much in common with Claudia. Me too. And I don't remember Marnie talking much at all. It wouldn't have hurt to have a couple other toddlers give Gabbie Perkins some competition...

How old are kids when you can start giving them eggs? I know babies are allergic. When my little cousin was about 9 months, my Grandma gave her a huge helping of scrambled eggs (despite my warnings) and kept saying "she loves those." Well, she loved them until she got extremely ill and puked and puked all over everything. Poor little thing. To this day, I think of that every time I think of eggs. As for Mrs. Barrett, I agree that she doesn't seem the type to make meals for her kids. The egg thing depends on the baby. If it's just the egg yolk from a hard boiled egg, then you can give them to a baby who's as young as six months. Or you can mix egg and milk and steam it and get a pudding/custardy-texture thing, and that's fine to give to really young babies as well. It just depends on how the eggs are cooked and whether the individual baby has allergies, I think. If Marnie wasn't allergic to eggs, then she probably would've been fine eating scrambled eggs. Okay. She was probably under 6 months as she isn't allergic now. She certainly was then - reminds me of the scene with Stacey and Jamie Newton getting sick. What book was that in, by the way? Anyone know?

Wasn't that when Stacey was on the outs with the BSC or was just about to be on the outs iwth them? During her whole time hanging out with Robert and his friends and the bad girls. I could be wrong. For some reason I think of Stacey on the phone with Robert not realizing that Jamie is puking or something like that. Anyone?

Yeah. That was the book. I felt so sorry for Jamie. Stacey was basically neglectful of him and after he got sick, he said, "I was calling and calling and you didn't come." Served her right having to clean it up

I was surprised when Marnie actually spoke in a book. I think it was don’t give up Mallory and she asked “what?” Other than this, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard her say a word. Even Squirt says all the little words. Which one is older? I guess it isn’t abnormal, though, that they would develop at different rates. My cousin didn’t utter anything more than grunting noises until he was at least 3 and I was talking in sentences at 17 months and said my first word at about 6 months (I’ve always been a big mouth). Speaking of this, makes me wonder when the BSC members all started talking. I don’t remember the Portraits mentioning it but maybe they did. I can picture Kristy and Abby talking early. Surprisingly, MA too because even though she is “shy”, I think her dad spent a lot of time with her, which sometimes helps. And she isn’t necessarily “quiet” all the time. I can picture Claudia just staring at artwork or something, though, and Stacey just eyeing fashion magazines – don’t know why I have this image in my mind. Not sure about Dawn, Mal and Jessi but I think they would be somewhere in the average range on age when they started talking.

I didn't really speak until I was 5... It's not that I didn't have the ability, I just had an overly verbal older brother who spoke for me and I was a very child. I can see marnie not talking much bc suzi and buddy always seemed loud to me.

^ I was an only child so that is probably why I talked earlier than some. I see Greer's situation with many kids I know so I agree about Marnie not talking because Buddy and Suzi do all of her talking for her. I was forced to speak up for myself (and haven't stopped, unfortunately talking or "typing" too much like right now because I REALLY need to get off these boards....

I was just thinking. I think my niece might've been advanced...but it's been awhile so I'm not sure. One thing thats standing out in my mind was when I was eleven, and they got her on the phone, and it was just before her birthday...and i asked her how old she was gonna be (cause you know kids LOVE saying how old they're gonna be) and I remember her saying "Two!" haha another thing I remember it was just a couple of months after her second birthday and I was in a 5th and 6th grade honor choir, (still all of 11 years old) and she was going up and down the rows of the seats, looking at the numbers and saying them outloud. (Funny the stuff you remember huh)

I don't recall Ryan or Marnie ever talking, either. Which is weird, especially in Marnie's case since the Barretts were around quite a bit. Skylar seemed like the most "normal" 2 year old to me. She said simple words and rudimentary sentences. Isn't that about where a 2 year old should be? In Hello, Mallory Marnie said "Grape Juice please." I was almost shocked when I reread this.

^ I missed that one. I'm always shocked when Marnie talks. Has Ryan Dewitt ever talked? Even Squirt, who is supposedly younger (how old is he anyway), says a few words. What about Sari Papadakis? Does she ever say anything. I know Emily is supposedly behind (and maybe she is because she's actually a bit older) but she does say quite a bit more than a few of the others close to her age.
