One of my favorite toddlers is Squirt Ramsey. I always thought that when he got older they should start calling him JP, short for John Philip. It would be a really cute nickname once he outgrew "Squirt."

I used to know a JP; he's now a weatherman on one or the other of the NYC television stations.

J.P. makes me think of the movie "Angels in the Outfield." The character is a young boy, cute and shy--also black, so he could pretty much be an older Squirt!

I like the name Philip (or Phil for something less stuffy). I can see Squirt morphing into Phil Ramsey, Ladies Man when he gets older. ;D Wasn't he supposed to be a little charmer?

I now have to take back my words earlier in this thread now that I have child who will be 2 on saturday and is quite delayed in speech. The speech delay is a source of constant frustration for him and for us. We don't know why he can't talk the way he should. He has been in therapy for four months and lags so far behind. His evaluations show him as cognitively and socially normal. He plays the way he should with toys, does all physical tasks he should be able to do and interacts socially the way he should but he doesn't speak at the level he should. He over compensates his lack of language by trying to be independent and do everything himself. He will do anything he can to avoid saying or signing a word to get something. For example he can say "more" and "food" and "eat" and he can sign "milk" and "help" but he will try to get food out of the cupboard rather than say he wants it. He also will sit and point to the letters of the alphabet in books. Drives me nuts that he recognizes letters in print but has a 50% delay with vocabulary. He's like a mix of Emily Michelle and Gabby Perkins with his barely talking yet attempting to read.
I was actually looking for a thread about Squirt. How old is he? Jessi mentioned him in some books just barely walking or starting to learn to walk but he could talk. I thought about 18 months in one book but then in another Jessi says he is learning to walk and I thought most babies could walk by then. Mine was walking at 13 months.

The Squirt walking status might be an inconsistency. I'm pretty sure there was a book where Jessi spent the afternoon walking up and down stairs with him because that was all he wanted to do.

I think Squirt might have been "almost" 2 a few times. I also am fairly certain once (probably by huge error) he was a little over 2. Most of the time he lingered between 14 months and being labelled "Jessi's baby brother." I think the book where all Squirt wanted to do was climb the stairs was "Mallory Hates Boys and Gym." Mal was trying to show us that even a young boy such as Squirt was suddenly acting up--just one more boy causing trouble.

I just love Squirt a lot! He's so adorable and cute and my second favorite is Sari.

What did you like about Sari? All she did was cry about cats. I liked that Hannie didn't like her much, haha.

Yeah, that was Skylar. Sari did sound cute even if Hannie thought she was a pest most of the time. That's little sisters

Crap, I knew that. There shouldn't have been two "S" named baby-toddler neighbor girls, lol. That said, I have no opinion on Sari. She was never really in a plot that I can remember.
