^ So who are the moms of the last two ;D By the way, I like your Karen avatar since I love Karen and that is one of my favorite pictures of her. Speaking of Karen and Emily, I really like her in the ending of Karen's Little Sister and enjoy the thing about the shirts for her, Kristy and Emily. That also makes me think, does it ever seem in the LS books (and BSC) that Kristy favors Emily over Karen? May just be my impression because I like Karen or just because Emily is littler but it kind of bothers me (I know "Karen Haters" will strongly disagree on this ;D)

I have never thought Kristy favors Emily over Karen. Kristy seems like she's totally in love with Karen - I think she favors Karen over every other kid in the series, including her own little brother.

^ Somehow I knew you would say that I also think Kristy favors Emily over David Michael and possibly Karen too. Maybe this is because he is a boy??? Or because he is her real brother and she's been around him forever while Emily and the others are "new" (if that makes sense)

I think all the "big people" in the house, from Kristy on up, favored Emily for many reasons. She was "new" and the youngest. She came from a crappy background. She had some health problems (in the LS series she had an operation to put tubes in her ears due to chronic ear infections) and language issues. When you factor all that in, she was probably cut a lot of slack for misbehaving and way overpraised for doing minor things well. Honestly if I were DM, Karen, or Andrew it would have driven me crazy.

^ I agree. Although, I don't necessarily think that Kristy would treat another baby in the household any differently, if they had one, than she would treat Emily Michelle.

I never thought of all of the special circumstances Emily has but agree it's why they all (especially Nannie who is more like Emily's mom than Elizabeth, anyway, in lots of ways) favor her more. Agree, mcpon, that Emily would be the most favored no matter what - probably because of these things.

In interacting with the kids Kristy does seem to sort of fawn over Emily Michelle more, but outside of the house she never seems to mention or think about her, while Karen comes up a lot. I'd say it balances out.

Okay I tried posting this THREE times at work but the internet kept crapping out on me, so we'll try again!! I don't think EM was favored at all over the other kids. She had special needs, yes, but recognizing those needs doesn't mean that the adults (or teenagers, lol) were favoring her. Okay I had a much more in-depth response written at work but I can't remember it, but I suppose that was the gist. I just don't think that giving EM the extra attention she NEEDED = favoring her. At all!

I really liked Emily Michelle too. All her Bye,Shar-ee(Bye,Charlie),Hi Ko-ee(Hi Claudee,I think),Hi Nii-nii(Saying hi to Janine,I guess that's her nickname for Janine ;D),Bwow up(She was telling Claud here to blow up her balloon.),and Heyyo!(Hello) were really cute. ;D

I think Emily Michelle was one of the most adorable babies in the series. I loved the parts of Claudia's great search where Claudia taught her the colours, and the moment when Janine gave her the balloon.

I used to not like Emily (was kind of jealous of her for Karen and the other kids' sake ;D probably because her relationship with Nannie reminded me of how my grandma was much closer with my little cousin than with me) but she's really growing on me. I also love the parts with Emily in Great Search, charlottejohanssen, and always have. ;D

I always liked emily, and wanted my mom to adopt us a baby from Vietnam. But instead I got a temporary foster brother who spied on me in the shower and got sent away to deal with his mental issues. My parents didn't bother trying again after that.

Ew, sorry, Penny I've always liked Emily a lot too. Her calling Claudia and Janine "Ko-ee" and "Nee-nee" is so cute.

i didn't like emily, i personally kinda hated her and i sympathized with Karen and thought it was hillarious when Karen framed her in the one book with the cookies or soemthing like that. hahaha
Emily was slow, and i felt it was so obnoxious the unreality of it all. I mean, she was in an ophanage that didn't sound like it was very caring and loving to the children, but somehow she's fluent in Vietnamese? and she never picked up on anything in America? with people like Karen in her life? and Kristy? i can't see how those 2 could not try to help her out -/

i dont think they ever said she was fluent in vietnamese--she just knew a couple of simple of words. orphanages can be INCREDIBLY traumatizing. i don't know much about about vietnamese orphanages, but i know there's a ton of problems in russian orphanages, so much so that there's been many highly-publicized cases where american parents have ended up killing their russian-adopted children because the kids were just completely uncontrollable and disturbed and the parents snapped. so i think that if emily had come to the us, adjusted right away, and acted like gabbie perkins, it would have been way more unrealistic.
