I knew a boy in elementary named John Michael. He was called "John Michael" all the time like David Michael.

I know an Alan Michael and he's always called Alan Michael (because his dad is Alan Jr. and grandpa is Alan Sr.)

Alan Michael was a character on Guiding Light (I don't know if he's a current character or not). I haven't watched that show in ages. ;D

^I think my mom used to watch that show. It was either that or Young and the Restless.

Aside from the whole language deal, the relationship between EM and Claud reminds me of me and my best friend. He's understanding and treats me as his equal even though he's a HS senior and I'm a sophomore. He loves me for who I am and loves to spend time with me. Therefore, me and him = EM and Claud.

Does he have really poor verbal skills?

I kinda view Emily Michelle as furniture- like a really fancy end table. She was just kinda there- not really all that important or purposeful, but looked good. Haha, that's how I view Emily too sometimes ;D. I just view her as this cute little baby (well toddler) that Watson and Elizabeth adopted. The only time I really felt for her was when she got eartubes in the LS book Karen's Little Sister because I had to get eartubes in when I was about her age.

on the whole "adopted sister" vs "sister" thing, my little sister is adopted, but i don't think of her as adopted. she's just my sister. i have a biological sister and i don't love them differently. of course i know she's adopted (some people think we look alike though -- she is chinese and i am filipino) but there's no reason to say so unless you specifically want to draw attention to it. and i can't think of any good reasons to do that :]

I think she is "slow" cause nobody read to her or played number and letter games with her, nor pointed things out to her, they were too busy. Watching sesame street while doing housework is NOT good enough. When I was 2-3 years old, I watched a show called Read Along that helped me and I automatically knew how to read on my own. She was like a little fish in a big sea. I thought her interaction with Claudia was very sweet too and I loved reading about it, I wanted to do that too when I read it as a 9 year old, but I don't have the patience Claudia did though I'm sure it made her feel smart.

other favorite character of mine. She was so cute, following people around.

I thought that Emily Michelle looked cute on some of the inside illustrations in the books. I liked it when Claudia helped her in Claudia and the Great Search.

Not a big Emily fan but didn't know where else to ask this question. On our latest board banner is a quote from Emily that says "Jimble Bells, Pwesents." When did Emily say that? I ask because I don't recall her saying (much of) anything other than "Tylis," "Cookie," and a few words of "Twinkle, Twinkle."

Nice to know Emily had her Christmas priorities right.

The treatment of Emily Michelle (and, by extension, Karen and Andrew) by Watson and Elizabeth definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Adopting a child isn't the same thing as getting a new puppy or buying a new birdbath for the garden, and it seemed like the bulk of raising Emily Michelle was a task that went to Nannie.
