Have to admit that I've never liked the Arnold twins. Something about them kind of bugs me - not sure exactly what. They seem a little strange and sort of bratty. Their subplots always bore me and they always seem to be doing odd things - Carolyn especially. I think they might be a bit devious, too. Don't know why I get that feeling. May be the switching places.

I was pretty indifferent to the twins. However, I did like the shopping scene with them and Mallory. It was very cute.

I'll have to reread Mallory and the Trouble With Twins for that scene. Just read the subplot that annoys me the most featuring the Arnolds with Carolyn's time machine. Strange girl, though quite imaginative and creative. I wonder how the Arnolds and Kormans (some of the strangest kids in subplots) would get along. I can just imagine Bill and Melody's fearful reactions to Carolyn's ideas.

^Oh god I can just imagine the Kormans being traumatized by Carolyn's time machine, convinced that she was going to send them back to the Stone Age or something. As a kid I thought Carolyn's time machine subplot was fun and interesting, but upon re-reading it, I was just bored.

^ I guess the Arnolds ARE kind of odd, come to think of it. I also tended to skip the time machine subplot, but mainly because it was from "Mary Anne's Makeover," and I always found the makeover stuff a lot more interesting.

I usually can't stand the twins (Marilyn is better than Carolyn) but liked them in Trouble With Twins, even though they were awful brats. I guess I kind of felt sorry for them being treated as one person. I liked how they were so excited that Mallory gave them different gifts. The description of their mother's accessories made me laugh. It reminded me of my cousin when she was about 6. Her parents actually had to limit her to 2 watches, 2 bracelets, 2 necklaces and 2 rings at one time! Fortunately, she grew out of it. Maybe Mrs. Arnold faced this same limit as a child and is making up for lost time

I did feel bad for them in Trouble with twins, if I had a twin and my mom ever did that to me, I would go insane.

I hate the depiction of twins in general in the BSC. Anna and Abby were fine at 13, but reading about how people treated them when they were children was ridiculous. Making them wear different colors, not bothering to learn to tell them apart, etc. It was the same thing with Marilyn and Carolyn. Yeah people think twins are neat a lot of the time and DO tend to group them together, but it was ridiculous how people in the BSC treated twins. When my twin sister and I were kids, yeah we were kinda considered a "package deal" if you will, meaning that if someone invited me somewhere, they usually extended the invitation to my sister as well (and vice versa) but it was NOTHING like in the BSC where people we'd known for years couldn't tell us apart and refused to even try.

I didn't like the Arnold twins at all. I first I thought I liked them, because I like twins and always wanted a twin, but then I found them boring, with stupid storylines. I just thought they were a waste of time, and I was waiting for when Ann was gonna drop them off the end of the earth. They need to get out of their before I blowed my brains out.

I've decided that I can definitely tell the twins apart personality-wise (maybe with the exception of Trouble With Twins). I am liking them a little more, though they still annoy me, and realize that I prefer Marilyn to Carolyn. Maybe because Carolyn seems a little more odd with her science obsession or maybe because she is better friends with Hayley, who I can't stand. Surprisingly, I didn't hate them as much in Dawn and the Surfer Ghost as I thought I would. Their subplot was annoying as always but almost cute. I wonder if this type of thing (not wanting to be seperated) is common for twins or just for siblings. Sotypical, any insight since it sounds like you're our twin expert with one of your own (I'm an only child so don't even have personal experience with a sibling)

What was the subplot in Dawn and the Surfer Ghost? I agree with you, aln, I think I like Marilyn a lot more. Carolyn is too out there for me. I didn't know Carolyn was better friends with Hayley... does that mean she is friends with Vanessa as well? Who are Marilyn's friends?

It seemed like Marilyn ended up tagging along after Carolyn a lot. Or at least that's what I remember the books showing. I liked Marilyn better because of the music interest.

I didn't know Carolyn was better friends with Hayley... does that mean she is friends with Vanessa as well? Who are Marilyn's friends? Carolyn falls because Marilyn isn't spotting her like she is supposed to be while practicing gymnastics. Marilyn feels so guilty that she refuses to leave Carolyn's side and the two become practically joined at the hip. Stacey comes up with a plan to have Hayley invite Carolyn over (maybe that is where I am getting the Hayley/Carolyn friendship) and Margo invite Marilyn over but for both of them to say they can only have 1 friend over. If they want to go, the twins have to separate and do. They get over having to always be together. Don't really know who Marilyn's friends are. Corrie Addison maybe??? I know they go together in Claudia and the Mystery at the Museum and both seem sort of "artsy". I think Carolyn is more outgoing and probably has more friends. Which one had the imaginary friend Gozzie? Wasn't that Marilyn?

Yeah I think Marilyn made up Gozzie. I remember the subplot where Marilyn is doting after Carolyn after the fall now. that was ridiculous. I mean I can understand twins being closer than "regular" siblings, but they took it to the extreme with that because marilyn was doing EVERYTHING for Carolyn. That is odd to think of Marilyn hanging out with Margo, for some reason margo seems a LOT younger than her (the twins are 8, right?), maybe because I lump her in with silly-billy-goo-goo claire.
