In a weird way, i can see their focus on "down-to-earth" rich families making rich kids feel bad. Haha.
I never realized that about the papadakises being basically the same as the kormans, but you're right.

^ I agree. I know the LS books, especially, make me feel really guilty when my parents buy me stuff (to the point where dad told me that I'd better not read them if I was going to cause such an issue every time he wanted to pay for something for me.....) Not that he's a "real live millionaire" but he has a different (thankfully more generous ;D) attitude than the BSC parents about buying stuff for me. Anyway, as for the Kormans taking out the tennis court, I never thought it was that big of deal and just assumed it was put in the books to give Amanda something to get mad about. As for the kids knowing they didn't want to play tennis, I can see it since I knew my interests by the time I was that age. I also just figured they had a good reason for the changes (downgrades or whatever ;D) to the house and bought it for some other good (or maybe not so good ;D) reason. I guess I never cared enough about the Kormans to really give them much thought. ;D Melody does seem cute enough, especially in the LS books, despite being kind of odd. I just can't get into their plots, I think, because they seem kind of foolish and I've never been able to tolerate "foolishness", even as a kid. ;D

^me too. my parents would never make me pay for half of a bike at the age of seven, or make me raise my own money for a school trip. of course now i don't expect them to just give me money when i want to travel, since i'm an adult, but it made me feel really spoiled when the bsc made such a big deal out of stuff like that.

^Mine either. I always felt a little weird when I read the books because earning money for things that I wanted/needed seemed really foreign. I didn't get why their parents weren't giving them an allowance or paying for their clothes. Maybe that's why none of the sitters played an instrument. They would have had to pay for it themselves, and that would take as much sitting as .. say paying for a plane ticket.

^yeah, and what was up with Robert working on the ferry for the summer? Aren't these kids 13? I know that they are more mature on the east coast because there is more money and the school system is better, but that's absurd. Other then the kids who did modeling or commercials, I knew one person who worked in jr high. She bussed tables at her parent's restaurant.
Kormans: I can actually only think of two books where they appear. I probably shouldn't have this kind of mean-spirited towards them, considering I barely know them.

You're right but I always thought that particular case was more like "I don't want you sitting around with your loser friends, eating my food, messing up my house. If you're going to do that, you'd better get a job to show some responsibility." - That's how I took it (maybe just how I wanted to take it ;D) though.

That would make sense if stacey were a bit older--say sixteen.

If she didn't want her hanging around, she could have just sent Stacey to her fathers for a while. .. and that kind of parenting makes so much more sense when someone is sixteen or seventeen and slacking off. Stacey is 13, and can't even legally get a job.

^ In the BSC world (my image of it at least ;D) 13 is 16 or 17, though. ;D

Seriously, I mean I'm thirteen and whenever I ask someone if I can babysit for them, they laugh and say I'm way too young

I just read MA Misses Logan (toilet monster one ;D) and noticed that it mentioned that they had a tennis court. Of course, they had just moved so maybe they took it out after that book? What book mentioned a garden instead? I actually don't remember that reference.
