Another point about the CA clients... I do like all of the parents in CA - they seem really warm and open. But I do find this a little bit of stereotyping on Ann's part - like all people from CA are warm and expressive and people in Stoneybrook don't seem as much so (it still bugs me that MA, Kristy and Claud grew up together and don't seem close with any of each other's parents). I've known all kinds of people from both sides of the country and find that personalities tend to differ more with individuals than with geography (though there are some general trends). Wish that more of the parents in Stoneybrook would have been like the CA parents. That's a good point actually it does seem kind of stereotypical, but I have noticed something similar myself. In California (at least in San Francisco) people seem more friendly and open right away, like everyone's always willing to help with directions or to just chat at the bus stop or something . People seem less reserved when you meet them (in general). Where I'm originally from (Grand Rapids Michigan, not Connecticut but still much further east than San Fran) people seem more reserved right away. Don't get me wrong people in GR are nice (I see you're from nearby and just from your posting I can tell you're very nice but people have to get to know you before they really open up. Being a native Grand Rapidian I'm this way too. That doesn't really explain families not knowing their kid's friends or not being friendly after they get to know people though. That is kind of weird.

^ I live in LA, and people don't seem that friendly at all. People seem almost territorial.

L.A. is whole different story My cousins live in Burbank and when we stayed with them they where really welcoming and hospitable (but then I am their only cousin so...) but when we went out to L.A. it seemed very much like Chicago or New York to me. Everyone going fast and lots of really skinny girls with really expensive purses. I've only been to L.A. once so I really shouldn't judge, but "image conscious" is definitely the first word that comes to mind for me (moreso than warm and friendly anyway) ;D

It's so cool that your originally from GR, Dawnomite. That is really close to me - about 1 hr. My aunt works downtown GR (lives in Lowell). It's one of the closest malls, too (actually, there are a few closer but we do go there sometime). I have actually found people from my area and other areas of the Midwest to be the rudest people I've met. No offense to anyone with this observation - I'm not saying it's a trend but just my experiences. I do see some general trends, though, with big city/country, etc. and this might explain the difference with LA that you mentioned. I agree that CA people seem much more liberal. I'm stereotyping, myself, now Back to the actual CA charges, just started thinking of if there are parallels between them and any of the Stoneybrook clients. Stephie and Char might be one, to some extent. Any others?

Sorry for the double post but I have a question on CA clients. In Jessi and the Bad Baby-Sitter, it mentions that Dawn sits for the Clune kids (who she calls the "clones" because they all look alike) in CA. I thought I remember another reference to them but it might be from the last time I read this book. I wondered if they are ever in another book. They sound cute and I would like to read more about them.

I just read Dawn on the Coast and really liked Clover and Daffodil. ;D I spoke too quickly at the beginning of this thread with not liking them much. ;D Clover reminds me a lot of Claire Pike. I never made that connection before but did today.

I really like Clover and Daffodil, while I wouldn't name my kids those names I think they are cute. My favorite CA client though was Stephie, I thought she was really sweet and cute.

I liked Clover and Daffodil, they sound like neat kids. Those boys sounded like the boys I saw the other night on "Supernanny", and Stephie kind of bores me. Oh, and I liked Whitney ok for most of #77, but after the "kidnapping" and the "honorary member" I was kind of annoyed.

^ I feel terrible for saying this but I have a very hard time dealing with mentally challenged people like Whitney so she really bothered me (made me feel uncomfortable) and almost annoyed me, especially with the kidnapping/member thing. (Again, I'm probably a terrible person ;D but...) I actually found her kind of bratty.

I think it's like that in big cities in general. For example, in certain parts of the UK like Exeter or Stratford-Upon-Avon, people are very (usually) friendly and hospitable whereas in somewhere like London, it's a LOT more impersonal.
