I would like to like the girls but am just not sure what to think of them. They kind of bug me but maybe it is just because I don’t really feel like I know them and they are quite annoying in Kristy and the Sister War. I do feel sorry for them, though. I would also like to like their parents and kind of do but again, don’t really know them. Their mom seems like a good mom who is just maybe a bit bored/lost in her own life. I also think the whole family could really benefit from some better communication. The parents remind me a bit of the McGills-predivorce with the workaholic dad and bored mother. But I don’t think Mrs. Kilbourne expresses her unhappiness as much as Mrs. McGill and isn’t as “forceful” of a person. I’m always really glad to see the Kilbournes trying to work out their problems, though, instead of just giving up and getting a divorce, which seems to be such a common quick-fix attempt that so often just creates more issues. Maybe I would have more insight into the Kilbournes if they had been in more books. But I also admit that I don’t find the girls all that interesting – or likeable (though I would really like to like them) – so maybe I’m glad they weren’t.

Shannon seems to be pretty popular with most BSC fans, but I was always pretty neutral about her. I love that she speaks French because I love all things French, but I hated that she sabotaged her trip to Paris! Sooo ungrateful. I always thought it was so weird how the girls in the club were always saying that they don't know Shannon very well and stuff. I get that she didn't go to their school and didn't have much time to hang out with them, but even after she temporarily became alternate officer the girls were STILL talking about how they barely know her. (I just read Claudia and the Perfect Boy and Claud makes some comments in that one about it.) Anyway, as for Maria and Tiffany... I know even less about them than I do Shannon! I felt bad for Tiffany when she felt like she didn't have any talents, but overall I guess I found her to be kind of boring. And I just realized this was posted in the Clients section so you're only referring to Tiffany and Maria! I should find the Shannon thread and post my thoughts about her in there, I guess. Sorry!

I think Maria was meant to be a rich version of Charlotte early in the books - really into school, unathletic and very shy, then came out of her shell when she realised she had a talent for swimming. Tiffany... started out the books as an eleven year old babysitter equally as ticked off as Shannon when the BSC were taking their jobs from them, described by Kristy as sophisticated looking (as well as all of Shannon's friends) and watches her sunbathing and filing her nails... then late in the series she's suddenly ten and has to be babysat for by the BSC!!!

Tiffany switched back to eleven in one other book, if I remember right. Then she was ten again. Kind of like how Suzi Barrett went from 4 to 5 to 4 to 5. Ah, inconsistancies... As for Tiffany and Maria, I think both of them were in bad need of attention, though this doesn't make much sense considering that their mom seemed bored. Maybe it was just their dad and Shannon's attention that they wanted.

Shannon bugged me ever since she deliberately failed French so she wouldn't have to go to Paris with her mother. What a cow! Even if you don't get along with your mother, why would you pass up an opportunity like that?! I know she was only thirteen, but still.
I'd love to go to Europe with my mother (she's been everywhere, and wants to visit some places again). d**n finances.

^ Keep saving your baby-sitting money, mckay ;D Any suggestions of a saying/quote that relates to the Kilbournes – Maria and Tiffany as charges? They aren’t very interesting to me, so I’m having trouble coming up with one.

I think they're babysat for in Stacey and the Cheerleaders. Tiffany (10 in this book) is jealous of Shannon for being a high achiever and of Maria for winning trophies and certificates for swimming, and feels useless in comparison with them. So she keeps acting up in school and the BSC encourage her to find herself a hobby/interest that she would be good at and enjoy. She tries a bazillion until she realises her passion for gardening.

The sister war book probably has better kilbourne quotes.

^ Thanks. I had forgotten they were in the Cheerleaders. Does it seem like the Kilbournes are always fighting in every book they are featured in?

I never had any strong feelings about the Kilbourne girls. They always seemed a little strange and indifferent to me. The whole family seemed to be a little weird and kind of...dysfunctional if that makes sense.

^ Agree. I never could get interested in Maria or Tiffany and just didn't really like them. Didn't really dislike them for any particular reason. Just didn't care much for them. (or maybe just didn't care about them either way ;D)

I wish we could have gotten to know more about the Kilbournes. I think they could be interesting, if they had been developed more.
