i think these two creepy kids need an entire thread devoted to them. no, i seriously want to know what makes them tick. mel tucker is pretty much a sociopath. and why is sean so angry? he seems to have anger issues, but not sociopathic issues like mel aka "mr. x". that kid creeps me out so much. i'm scared that he's lurking around in the shadows as i'm typing this.

^ They are definitely disturbing. I'm glad the BSC doesn't sit for Mel. I think both have major problems and have the potential to be dangerous to society. I also wonder what makes them tick.

^ Agreed! It would've been great to see more of a history for these two guys. They're an interesting contrast to sweet little Charlotte, the adorable Jamie Newton and the perfect Perkins girls.
What was Sean's motive for setting fires (which can be a precursor to psychopathy in later life - yikes!!) in the library? I never got to read that one.

He didn't want to participate in the summer reading program. That's it. He didn't like to read. F-ed Up!

Was that it? It's been a while since I've reread but I think you're right. Were there any other issues - parents not giving him attention, etc.? Can't remember. That kid has some serious problems! I'm about to reread Beware Dawn so may have more thoughts on crazy Mel then too. He was so horrible in Secret of Susan that I could have strangled him. These two are both future serial killers ;D

I feel overly-concerned about him right now. I guess that's the psych student in me coming out, but still...I'm beginning to realize that I spend too much time thinking about the BSC...

this is kind of off topic, but can anyone explain to me why bedwetting is a sign of a future psychopath? i obviously understand setting fires and cruelty to animals, but i don't get the bedwetting part. someone please enlighten me!

and why is sean so angry? Probably because his parents suck and completely ignore him. Corrie has issues, too, but she's more withdrawn and sad.

I have no idea! It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, either. The only thing I can think of is it having something to do with an inability to control yourself. But I really wouldn't put any stock into that theory at all. It's been a long time since I've taken abnormal psych, unfortunately. ITA about Sean's parents sucking. It's been a while since I've read Claudia and the Sad Good-bye, but I vaugely remember the Addisons dumping Corrie off on Claud so they could have more time together without the kids. I hate parents who do that. Why have kids if you don't ever want to spend time with them? And what's the scoop with Mel Tucker? Do we have any clues as to why he's so evil?

Does anyone know all the books Sean was in? I'm not too interested in Mel, I think he was simply placed in as a bully, so when they needed a bad kid they turned to him. But I don't understand what Sean's issue is and I am interested in re-reading the books he's featured in (I'm guessing I don't have all of them though )

^ He's in MA and the Library Mystery and Abby and the Worst Kid Ever for sure. He's also in one where he thinks he's too old for the sitters and takes off on Abby and definitely has some real anger problems - ironically, Mel is teasing him in that one ;D Can't remember what book that is but I think it's a later one. I know he might be in some others but I can't think of them right now.

^ it was, i just reread that one. and it was a total yawnfest. i actually only reread it because of my current fascination with delving into the disturbed psyche of sean addison. it's rare that i like a subplot better than the actual plot, but seriously, this book was like...two chapters of claudia worrying about being queen, then sean. two chapters of claudia worrying about being queen, then sean. i could barely even finish the last few chapters.

^ Yeah, that book wasn't so hot. The scene at the end with Claudia dancing with Mark Jaffe was incredibly lame. The sub-plot was much more interesting than the main plot, something that doesn't happen (to me, at least) very often.
Wasn't Sean in another one, something to do with a tuba? He was taking tuba lessons and kids were making fun of him. Or am I thinking of another kid or even making this up?

okay, that sounds hilarious and i hope that plot exists. i know there's a LS "karen's tuba" book where she's pissed that she has to play the tuba instead of the "graceful flute" or whatever.
