I think I remember the tuba book with Sean, too, but I might just be imagining things. Tend to do that sometimes ;D And I LOVE Karen's tuba. Reminds me of how my loud mouth cousin was told that she couldn't play the flute because her "lips were a little too large" (direct quote that translates as "you have a big mouth" ;D) Thank goodness, she didn't end up playign the tuba. Took choir instead, which is bad enough ..... ;D

^ it was, i just reread that one. and it was a total yawnfest. i actually only reread it because of my current fascination with delving into the disturbed psyche of sean addison. it's rare that i like a subplot better than the actual plot, but seriously, this book was like...two chapters of claudia worrying about being queen, then sean. two chapters of claudia worrying about being queen, then sean. i could barely even finish the last few chapters. I wish I'd thought to profile Sean Addison when I was taking abnormal psych a couple of semesters ago! I still managed an A (or maybe it was an A- ) in the class, but I would've had so much more fun with a BSC-themed project!

^ Heehee! Profiling Sean Addison in your abnormal psych class would have been the greatest thing, ever. Congrats on your A (or A-), some psych classes can be a b*tch to get through (*ahem mathematical cognition, anyone?*) .
Can anyone else confirm the tuba plot? I really hope that I'm not going crazy, but I swear I read that kids were making fun of Sean for playing the tuba. And wasn't there something to do with "Mr. Tuba"? Because I'm fairly certain that I would make fun of anyone who called their tuba Mr. Tuba. But I could totally be making that part up. I keep thinking that it's in Claudia's Freind Friend, but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about that. Has anyone read that book lately?

I just read Mal and the Dream Horse and saw that Sean does definitely play the tuba as he plays it in the Pike's talent show. I got so excited when I saw that ;D But no mention of him being made fun of for it. Still, it might be in another book. I read Claudia's Friend not too long ago and don't remember that it was in that one but will have to check. Was it in Mean Janine? I seem to think it was an early Claud book and that is one of the only ones I haven't read for a while.

I remember the tuba too. Was he taking lessons in Claudia and the Sad Goodbye?

^ Hmmm...possibly. I don't remember, though. I don't like reading that one because it's so sad. Hahaha, now that I think about it, the image of some psychotic kid playing the tuba is pretty funny. Psychopathy and tubas don't usually go hand in hand, but maybe his resentment at lugging the thing around is what started it all for Sean!

I know a kid who plays the tuba but had forgotten that was his instrument until my mom mentioned it the other night. I started laughing, thinking about Sean Addison and this thread. Lugging it around could cause some anger issues ;D

Just re-read Claudia and the Sad Good-bye. Corrie mentions something about Sean taking tuba lessons, and I laughed, thinking of this thread.
I also recently re-read Claudia, Queen of the Seventh Grade, where the girls baby-sit for the Addisons and Sean is desperate to be a baby-sitter himself. One of the given reasons is that some of the kids tease him about needing a sitter, including Mel Tucker (whose real name, as we learn, is Melvin!). It seems weird that Sean was almost afraid of Mel, or at least afraid to be teased by him. If anything, Mel should be afraid of Sean! I guess I found it strange that a kid as disturbed as Sean was afraid of Mel. For some reason, I thought they were friends, but maybe I lump them together because of this thread!

Just found in Claudia and the Sad Goodbye that Sean’s parents were picking him up from tuba lessons. I’ve read a few references about him playing the tuba now and always look for that because of this thread. This time, it made me laugh (it actually always does) because it reminded me of the Brad Paisley song “Online” and the video where the guy who looks like George Costanza from Seinfeld is marching down the street with “Marsha Brady” playing the tuba. I’ve been laughing all day about this ;D (I love that video anyway ;D)

Sean's also in Abby and the Best Kid Ever. The Addisons are moving away, and Sean thinks that everyone in the BSC hates him because of stuff like the library fire thing, so he's upset, and they're trying to convince him that they really do like him and they're not glad that he's going. Hahaha, now that I think about it, the image of some psychotic kid playing the tuba is pretty funny. Psychopathy and tubas don't usually go hand in hand, but maybe his resentment at lugging the thing around is what started it all for Sean! Psst, psychosis and psychopathy aren't the same thing. Sorry to nitpick, but since I've been psychotic and am definitely not a psychopath, you can see why this would bug me.

Sorry if I offended you, wanderingfrog. The article said that psychosis if often used incorrectly to refer to psychopathy, which is what I did. My bad.

I think Sean is both psychotic and a psychopath. Just my opinion on him, though, and not a "clinical diagnosis" ;D Just read Library Mystery and think it's pretty extreme to start those fires just because he didn't want to do the readathon. Nicky certainly didn't react that way. And I don't think the Addisons were successful with dealing with the problems judging by Sean's behavior in later books, which actually seemed worse. Hopefully once they moved, things got better (but I think this is wishful thinking....)

^ Yep, I don't think that the Addisons handled Sean's behavioural problems at all. They clearly neglect their children (Claudia and the Sad Good-Bye), which is not good at all for crazy kids who set fires because they don't want to do something. I think they were sending Sean to a psychiatrist, but sometimes that's not enough. Especially when you don't spend any time with your kids!

Just read Beware Dawn and Mel Tucker is seriously frightening. The decapitated doll was so creepy and the notes were bad enough. Does he show up in any books after that one?
