I think that they could be friends, but it would be a hard friendship because both girls are so headstrong.

I feel a little bad for Margo since she has car sickness and airplane sickness. It would have been nice if she was developed more.

So, I have a lot of share on Ms. Margo Pike. When I was a kid, I, too, thought that Margo and Claire were synonymous. I just picture Claire as a mini version of Margo, to be honest.
I did like how Margo showed up in Karen's Mermaid. She was actually a big character in that book. It would make sense how Karen met her match with Margo, in terms of bossiness, confidence, and strength. Margo is one of eight kids -- so she would need to be bossy and assertive to "get her way" or "make her mark". I liked seeing the challenge between the two girls that results in a friendship because they would make a pretty strong headed pair.
I must have liked Margo, especially the name, because I named my cat Margo (and the idea came from the BSC). In fact, Margo (my cat) is similar to Margo (the character), although my cat doesn't peel bananas with her feet. And surprisingly, Margo (the character) pukes more than my cat Margo, hairballs included!

I feel that way, too, because they were always together and because I think one of the earliest books described them as being best friends. I imagined them to look very alike as well.
