This movie came out when I was in fifth grade. I was pretty much obsessed beyond the point of any return and I remember just being so scared/excited/frantic about this movie coming out. It was a dream come true, but I also wanted to make sure that the books were done justice and that the actors would be true to charecter.
Before the movie came out, my best friend from that time of my life had heard that two of the stars of the movie would be at a book store in a local mall signing autographs. I remember at the time I had bronchitis, but I refused to miss this oppertunity and stood in line in a mall for 5 hours to meet the girls who played Claudia and Stacey. My friend and I were elated, becasue we had planned to wear our Hard Rock cafe shirts on the off chance that the girl who was playing Stacey was there, and maybe she would notice our off reference to her charecter. When she smiled widely at us, I took it as a sign that she had noticed, but when I look back now I realized that it was the same look she was managing to muster up for everyone after 5 long hours of fandom.
When the movie did arrive in theatres, I went opening night and was so happy... I loved the movie... Sure... I had a mental check list of inconsistancies, but for the most part, the charecters were spot-on, the script was well written, and it was buyable. I really BOUGHT that those were the same girls on the screen that I had been reading about in my books for years, and I think that that's what made the film fairly successful.

I'm gonna make this one a sticky, just since it's the BSC I remember when the BSC movie actually came out in theaters, I was just starting to get into the books so I didn't get the chance to see it on the big screen. But by the time it got onto VHS, I was full-blown addicted so of course, I just had to buy it so I could watch it any time I wanted. ;D I thought all the girls did a really fantastic job in bringing their prospective characters to life, and the writers did a great job of making you believe that it was just another BSC book. For some reason, one of the actresses that particularly stuck in my mind was Marla Solokoff as the snobby Cokie Mason, I thought she just did a wonderful job portraying the evilness and bad attitude that was portrayed in the books (and I wanted to smack her so badly for trying to come between Logan and Mary-Anne ). And I also loved how they did the little intro of each of the sitters, just like they would do at the beginning of each book (no matter how many times you'd seen it before, you know you still read it ). I used to watch this thing so much, that I can still recite lines from select parts of the movie, and when I watch it now I know what's coming up and everything, lol. I even bought the soundtrack because I loved all the music in the movie, and I just had to own that thing. When you look back on it now most of those artists are pretty much unheard-of, but that's what makes it even better. It's 90s indie-band rock at its best, and you can't help but smile when you listen to that last song. "Ohhh 'til the end girl..... girlfriend!!"

I was somewhat disappointed in the movie. I think there was too much going on. It would've been easier to follow if there had been a simple plot line. I really wanted to see more everyday stuff going on. And if it had been one of the SS that would've been so dibble!

OMG,I would have loved it it was a SS!! I think the European one or the Camp Mohawk one would have made the best ones. That or the Sea City one. Geni

They should make a new BSC movie! An adaptation of one of the books. That'd be so cool.

Hmm. What about making a movie from one of the books? My vote would be for "Logan Likes Mary Anne" or one of the earlier books.

I finally found a copy of the dvd in the Wal-Mart cheapo bin! Anyone else notice that in the picture on the actual dvd everyone is smiling except for Mallory who has her eyes crossed and her tongue sticking out a little? So weird. Mallory really is a joke to the universe.

I think SS #10 (where they go to Sea City) would be a cool movie.
anyway, I loved Mallory in the movie. She was soooo cute/dorky!! Altho her and Jessi looked like they were about 6 years old, but whatever...

A few questions.
1) Why is Mary Anne and Dawn's house/yard so freakin' huge?? 2) Why is Mallory wearing ties with shorts and a shirt? 3) Why did Kristy stamp the book twice whenever Suzi and Buddy Barrett asked to be counted as one charge, when their names are written together?

Wow, I feel so old! The movie came out when I was 14, and I had long since stopped reading the books. My friend Sara and I bribed her older sister to drive us to the movie theater but not tell anyone that we were seeing a little kids movie.

Not gonna answer these questions...but add to them 1)...with cedar floors and huge French doors? And when did the barn become safe enough for all the kids and girls to have lunch in? 2)...and carrying a briefcase? Also, why does it appear that Mary Anne has had her 'makeover' but Kristy hasn't turned 13 yet? 3)...and did the girls give the same discount to the Pike kids?

Rosie Wilder is supposed to have thick glasses and thick flaming red hair. She was glasses-less and blonde in the movie. That bugged me.
I haven't read Kristy's Portrait so I don't know if its mentioned there, but she does allude to her father's "sneak visit" in BSC in the USA. It would have been kinda neat had Alan's crush on Dawn also been mentioned later on. Maybe it was because she was in California by then and they thought there was no need?

And Luca calls her "Rosalyn". Her name is Mary Rose!

Kristy's father visiting her is one of the anecdotes that got its own section in Kristy's Book, but it isn't written to be the same story from the movie. I got the sense that the movie was pretty much ignored when the BSC writers attempted continuity.

I think the book came later. Also, Patrick in the illustration looks almost exactly like Patrick in the movie.
