I was re-watching the movie a few nights ago and had a few questions.
-When do you think this movie takes place? Has it ever really been mentioned? I keep thinking early 90's.
-Kristy takes a cab to Montys. Claudia and Stacey take a cab home. Cabs are expensive. It bothered me since you know, it didnt seem like they would make much money anyway to pay for one. Why not have your parent pick you up or someone else?
-How much did they get paid anyway?

I always wondered how much they got paid babysitting as well. I used to make about 5 dollars an hour babysitting but I am not sure what they made.

They get paid enough for a pizza and salad, heh.

I always assumed it took place in present day, meaning the year it was released was the year in the movie. I think it was 1995? I remember Clueless came out the same summer.

That is always what I assumed too. It seemed to have a mid 90's feel to it.

Yeah, I always assumed present day, too, which would make it 1995.

I think it did take place in 1995. It looks like it.

The cab thing was weird. It's not like the streets of Stoneybrook are full of roaming cabs!

There was an episode of Hannah Montana recently (the BSC isn't my only obsession that's meant for pre-teens) where the character Miley had to pass a big test in her biology class, so she made up a song and dance to learn the bones. I swear, everyone here needs to see it, it's just like the brain song they do for Claudia in the movie. Only the one in Hannah Montana is actualy a little better. But it doesn't involve Mallory trying to dance, so it's really hard to compare.

The cab thing was weird. It's not like the streets of Stoneybrook are full of roaming cabs! Yeah that's what I came in here to say! It's not like a town like Stoneybrook would have a bunch of cabs driving around. Really weird that their parents didn't just come pick them up.

^ I've never heard of small towns having cabs. Maybe it's an East Coast thing.

My small town had a few cabs, but you had to call ahead of time and tell them where to get you. You couldn't just go to a street corner and flag one down cause there were literally only like 1 or 2 cabbies working at a time and it wasn't likely that they'd just randomly drive by where you were standing.

Yeah, i think you can call a cab ahead of time and ask one to pick you up here, but Stacey is NOT going to be able to hail a cab.

I live right outside of Phoenix and even here, there aren't cabs just randomly driving around looking for people who need rides.

No, it is NOT an east coast thing. Basically, no one takes a cab in a small town, unless you are drunk at a bar or like....your car breaks down and need to get somewhere.
