I thought it was a shame they 'got rid' of Claudia's grandmother so early in the series. The extended families in Stoneybrook were unusually devoted and while it isn't so common in this day and age, it's definitely a nice thing. Mimi was a lovely character and seemed to have a real 'history' with the girls, particularly Kristy and Mary Anne.

Yeah, I really liked her in Mary Anne's Portrait Collection. She seemed so sweet.

Mimi was awesome. I also loved how she actually seemed to have a connection to the girls, unlike many of their parents. The ghostwriters probably would have ruined her character in later books anyway. One of the things that make the earlier books great is the little stories from the past that make the characters seem more real. Similarly, you just get that sort of familiar feeling with Mimi.

i LOVED Mimi. she was so nice. it was so sad when she died. i loved how she would help claudia study and how she and claud had that special bond. mimi was the only person claudia could relate to in her family.
and i also liked how mimi and maryanne were close too. so sweet

I loved it when Mimi allowed MA, Kristy, and Claudia put handprints in the cement. It seems as if she was saying that if you want to make mischief then you have to do it right.

Not only did they get rid of Mimi too soon, but she got sick way too fast. We only had one Claudia book where she was 100% Mimi. It was sad how she had labeled so many things in her room before she died so that they would go where she wanted them to.

When I started re-reading the series for the first time, I was shocked at how quickly Mimi had her stroke.

Mimi bored me. I feel guilty saying that. I liked her relationship with Mary Anne, because it was nice to see Mary Anne with a motherlike figure. But I was bored by her relationship with Claudia... I know that's horrible. Like I said, I feel guilty not really liking Mimi.
I agree she got sick and died too quickly. It's really weird re-reading the series because it seemed like she was around MUCH longer in my mind... but in the series she's actually killed off really soon.

I think that Claudia's relationship with Mimi was kind of boring because Claudia made it boring. She didn't really take advantage of Mimi like how MA did. Mimi taught MA how to sew and so forth. All Claudia did was share special tea with her.

I noticed that Mimi's post-stroke speech was a lot like Claudia's spelling. She'd try to say a word, can't, then say an easier word instead. Like how Claudia would cross words out...Anyway, thought that was interesting.
I liked how Mimi was hooked on Wheel of Fortune.

All Claudia did was share special tea with her. Oh and don't forget, she was the only homework-helper Claudia tolerated! I guess it seemed as if Claudia made the Mimi relationship boring because Mimi had always been there - as lovely as she was, she was a live-in grandmother and therefore wasn't such a novelty in Claudia's life.

Of course, Ann M. had no idea there would be 200+ books in the series. Mimi has her stroke in book seven. Ann M. may have thought the series wouldn't last much beyond that. Especially since she originally only signed on for four books.
I think Mimi died at an appropriate time in the series. Imagine if it the series got to book seventy or eighty and the BSC was still mentioning Mimi's "recent" stroke. Mimi's story arc served its purpose in portraying a beloved grandmother suffering a stroke, slowly recovering, and finally dying. I'm glad it wasn't dragged out any longer.

Actually, that's a very good point. I guess if Ann had known ahead of time how long her series had lasted, she'd have written things differently. I guess it would've been better to actually SEE Mimi's wonderful bonding relationship with Claudia as opposed to just hearing about it every Chapter Two.

^ I dunno. I liked how she died early. I just keep thinking that they would have ruined her if they kept her for too long. They have a tendency of ruining some characters for me.
