I like Janine because she has the skills that a woman needs to have to be independent. And I think in America, those are skills wanted and admired.

So, in The Mystery at Claudia's House, Janine gets a super hunky boyfriend (cause really, what's more likely than that?)... I don't even remember his name, but does he stick around? I can't for the life of me remember if he does or not. I love how Janine takes Claudia's sweater and wears it like, EVERYDAY in that book. hehe.

Jerry is the name of Janine's boyfriend. He is around for a while but then they break up - I think it is in Claudia and the Lighthouse Ghost. Claudia even suspects him of sending threats, stuff like that, though I am not sure exactly why. Her suspicions (like they often do) seem to have little basis as Jerry doesn't seem like that kind of guy. But I guess you never know.... And when you are a "Nancy Drew in training" like Claudia, it is important to suspect everyone

Jerry was in SS15. They were all counselors at a camp together (post-break up), and he kept giving Janine a hard time. Pretty annoying.

I haven't been able to get my hands on SS 15 but this sounds like one more interesting thing in it. Maybe Jerry does have a bit of a dark side that I was overlooking - or at least an annoying side.

aw I'm disappointed to find that out about Jerry!! Claud made him sound like such a good guy in The Mystery at Claudia's House.

How advanced was Janine's computer anyways? I mean, it was in the 80's and all. Yet, it kept her occupied all day. And it didn't seem like many of the BSC members were that familiar with them, except for Claudia on a couple of occassions. And it doesn't seem like it was that common in homes either. I dunno.

Well, in Mystery Admirer, all the notes were typed. When Kristy wrote the revenge note to Cokie, she went down to use the computer. By then it was 1990, so they would have been moving towards Windows from DOS. I'm not really sure what Janine does, other than write papers. Maybe she "word processes" for fun? Maybe she was secretly playing text adventure games.

Maybe she spent a lot of time on the wacky pre-WWW text-based Internet. Maybe she got caught up in debates on USENET and spent hours playing, like, a barbarian queen in MUDs. The Secret Life of Janine Kishi...

Poor Janine. She didn't have much of a social life did she? Why did the Kishi parents never encourage Janine away from the cyber world? She sure as hell could have done with a break.
Why did none of Janine's 'nerd' friends come to visit? Wasn't it mentioned that Janine had a best friend- the name escapes me?
The only person who came to see Janine was Jerry.

My dad is a total computer nerd and even in the 80s he spent TONS of time on the computer. I have no clue what he was doing... anyway, Janine could've just been typing homework or maybe she took computer courses? I don't know. Ooh I vaguelly remember really early on in the series when Janine is 15 that she had a best friend who was 14. I have no clue what her name was, though.

I think Janine was doing computer science.
Jerry just couldn't let Janine go--that is why he was a pain in ss15.

Oh yeah, I think it was mentioned in Kristy's Great Idea. I don't think they gave a name. I like that Janine had friends even if we've never met them. When she wins her community college award, she goes out with a few friends to celebrate and Claudia's all like "What friends? Where are they going, the library?" I think Rosa, Claudia's tutor, was one of her friends as well.

It would have been good if we had a one off special (book) about Janine. It would make up for the stupid 'Little Sister books'.
