Who here liked Laine? or hated her?
The only book i ever liked Laine (out of the many appearances she made in the series) was New York New York. She wasnt bitchy and quite nice to Jessi (about meeting Quint and his family)
I hated her in SS The Baby-Sitters Remember, she was so mean to Stacey. spreading that story around (when stacey wet the bed cos she had diabetes) with alison. and dont get me started on her in Staceys Ex-Best Friend.
and i remember they brought her back briefly in the Friends Forever Series, in the book where Stace finds out her father is getting remarried. and she acted like she and stacey were bff again and that they never had fought.
end of laine hate rant, hahahha.

I hated Laine, she was a terrible snob. Reading about her aggravates me and I can't believe Stacey became friends with her again in Truth About Stacey. Glad they got rid of her in Stacey's Ex-best Friend. I didn't even like her in Stacey's Portrait, particularly the When I Was Ten chapter. Little brat!

She was alright in Welcome Back, Stacey. She brought them bagels and stuff. But even then, she wasn't that good a friend. Stacey had to call the BSC to get support. Not a surprise Stacey decided to go back. In all the other books, yeah, Laine's not so great, to put it nicely.

Laine and Lila Fowler from the Sweet Valley series should get together. They'd be BFF - well, either that or constantly at each other's throats.

You must have read my mind as I was going to start this thread today. I hated Laine, too. She was so awful to Stacey with her diabetes. That made me hate her especially because I could really relate to people being jerks to you for having an illness you couldn't control. It's not like Stacey exactly wanted to get sick. I haven't read too many books with Laine in them but just read Stacey's Ex-Best Friend and cheered Stacey on for getting fed up with her (though I wouldn't even have invited her.) I don't know why Stacey persists in being friends with her but I guess you want to think that it's going to be like it "used to be" when you were little kids. But people change (or we gain a clearer perception of them). Glad to hear I am not the only one who thinks Laine is a major jerk. She is certainly on Lila Flowler's level.

I liked Laine in Stacey's Portrait. But other than that, not really. I liked Laine in Stacey's Mistake. I didn't like the way Claudia started to pick fights with Laine. I liked the way Laine wouldn't take that crap from Claud. But yeah, in Stacey's Ex-Bestfriend, she was just awful. Maybe she went completely psycho because she was so bored. I mean at one point she was staring at a television set for like 6 hours straight. I dunno.

I thought Laine (and her family) was great in the NY super special. She let her friend's friends crash at her apartment for, what, two whole weeks? Never mind the fact that Mal and Jessi were practically strangers. Her mom was pretty cool about the dog Kristy was hiding too.
She was nice in Stacey's Emergency too. The way she hung out at the hospital and listened to Stacey vent about her bitching parents and kept bringing her funny little gifts to cheer her up.
Actually I thought Laine was fine until Stacey's Ex-Bestfriend. It sucks to grow apart from a really close friend, but that happens often at that age. She looked old and evil on that cover though.

Not only was she a snobby biatch in this one, she was an incredible dork. The King of her Heart? Laine, please. For someone so sophisticated, her King-gushing made her sound like a desperate try hard bragging about her cool older boyfriend who's just some voice-cracking pubescent boy in reality

Agree with her sounding dorky and snobby in Stacey's Ex-Best Friend. She was okay in New York, New York (especially about the dog - I would have been furious) but I just can't get past how mean she was to Stacey when she found out that she had diabeties. Did any of the books ever mention if she ever really apologized for that and felt bad about it? I know that Stacey got nervous being around her again for the first few times after she left NY for Stoneybrook. In my opinion, you should be able to trust your best friend to care about you unconditionally. Also, I can't stand Laine because she seems to have a really good opinion of herself and think she is so sophisticated and "cool".

I liked her in Stacey's Emergency and New York New York, but not really anywhere else. I know she was supposed to be Stacey's best friend (at least, up to Stacey's Ex-Best Friend), but I thought there were a zillion instances where she wasn't a very good friend, or a very nice person. Like her being the "leader" of their group at Parker, and the rest of the girls being afraid of Laine. She sounded like Kristy but worse.

I agree. And I think that Laine just started going through her bratty teenager phase in Stacey's Ex-Best Friend. Suddenly she was too cool for everyone and everything was 'beneath' her. It was weird, because she really was quite likeable in NY, NY and especially in Stacey's Emergency.

I really liked Laine in Staceys emergency. Bringing her funny gifts and cheering her up. She was a very good friend in this book, I think. I didn't like her in a lot of other books, though, and I also found it very werid how in Welcome Back, Stacey, she made Stacey call the BSC for support. That just makes no sense.

I think it would have been interesting to see Stacey and Laine meet up in NYC and during Stacey’s “rebellious” phse when she quit the BSC. They probably would have reconnected, at least until Stacey rejoined the BSC.

^ That certainly would have been interesting. But then I guess Ann didn't want to restart their relationship. I mean, to me, it seemed as if Stacey's Ex-Bestfriend was the kiddie version's way of "killing off a character." I guess, Ann just wanted to get rid of that relationship. Or maybe not. I dunno.
