I really like Laine. Even if she's a snob. I'm reading Baby-Sitters Remember right now, and, yeah, she's a snob. And she and Stacey have a really weird relationship. But even with all of that, I really like Laine. Maybe it's just the idea that she has tons of fanfic potential (and I'm a sucker for that), but I think she's an interesting character. And I can't even really put my finger on why.

I always disliked Laine, but I found her to be one of the most realistic depictions of a 13 year old in the BSC.

Last night I read Stacey's Emergency, NY NY! and Stacey's Ex-Best Friend. It was such a radical change from the first two books to the last one. But then with her older boyfriend and what not, I wonder how much THAT had to do with Laine going from a nice girl who can make occasional snobby remarks to being a full-out snob. All she needed was some older guy telling her how cool and mature she was, and she just took it a few steps further. I cringed when she referred to herself as "Babe" to King.
But then again, look 20 books down the road and Stacey's heading down a very similar path as Laine.

I like Laine, I wish they had gone even more in depth with her character.

The Babe thing always made me laugh because that's what the kids called Tess to make fun of her (though I know it was for a different reason) and Laine thought it was a compliment. ;D I wish Stacey wouldn't have followed in Laine's footsteps but was glad she got nice again.

Laine literally had everything she wanted: nice clothes, popularity, boy friends...she was never denied anything and so she never learned humility, decency, respect, tact, etc.
It surprised me that Stacy would act like such a biotch later on because she could clearly see the flaws in Laine but couldn't see those same flaws within herself.

I think the problem was that Laine was just given everything so developed an entitlement complex. She just didn't have to suffer or face any real problems (that I know of, though I guess I shouldn't make that assumption....) and thought everything just came "free." I think people can have a lot of things and get a lot from their parents but not develop this sense of entitlement that Laine seemed to have (hard for me to explain what I'm saying here. ;D) Hopefully this makes at least a little sense. ;D

I think that part of the reason why I thought that Laine was a snob was because the BSC thought she was a snob. Just like how Kristy thought Shannon was a snob and that whole neighborhood was snobby made me think the same way even though I didn't really have much else to go on.

^That's true but I mean from the way she acted towards Stacey with the whole bed wetting thing and how she just acted like she was totally above everyone. What kind of person acts that way to their sick best friend? She was nice sometimes like when Stacey was in the hospital and she brought her presents but for the most part she really was a rude, arrogant person, IMO.
