I remember being able to waste insane amounts of time doing absolutely nothing at that age. We also had open campus at lunch, so I was trained to be able to run through the parking lot, hop in a car, get to a fast food restaurant, fight the crowd and wait in line, eat, get back to school, park, run through the parking lot again, and get back to class in 30 minutes or less. I have no problem believing that Charlie could find productive things to do for the 30-40 minutes that Kristy was at Claudia's.

Maybe he takes the time in the car to just unwind after a day at school? Or maybe he plays with a Gameboy? Or, I think it would be really touching if he spent it looking back at his old house reminiscing or just basking in the atmosphere of his old neighborhood? I could imagine Kristy jumping in the car after a meeting and spotting a little wetness in his eyes. I think that it would be really sweet if he spent the time to visit Mimi since she might reach out to him after noticing how he has to kill 30 minutes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for Kristy.

Amalia, I wish we had gotten to read about Charlie talking with Mimi. Based on how sweet and just wonderful Mimi was, I can easily believe that at least a few times in both Charlie and Sam's, probably David Michael's too, lives she was there for them. I will always wish Ann and Co had kept Mimi healthy. Sparklymouse and Amalia, I never thought about Charlie grabbing a snack. The BSC always commented on how starving they were at 5:30 so most likely Charlie, a teenage boy, was too! It would have been very cute had Janine ever offered him one of her "hidden" pieces of candy or other junk food as a snack. I could see him being the perfect person for her to somehow come to confide her sweet tooth into.

I imagine Mimi could have been a spare grandmother of sorts when the Thomases lived on Bradford Court. They had Nannie but no other grandmother.

I got question for Charlie & Sam. Did any of them, baby-sit for David Michael, Karen, Andrew, & Emily Michelle? It's like, anytime, I read about Kristy babysitting her siblings. Charlie & Sam, is either busy with High School stuff or on date. I know, Kristy loves to babysit. But, you'll think, Mr. & Mrs. Waston, let Kristy have a day off, from baby-sitting.

it always bugged me too that charlie and sam were so inseparable. maybe it's different for boys but my sister and i fought like crazy at 15 and 17 (and we still do.) i think it's just a sign of laziness that the writers would send charlie and sam to the same basketball games or friend's house, just so it would take less thinking. Yes, it's different for boys. In my experience, boys/generally like their friends, whereas girls/women tend to be catty with each other, as we often see with the BSC and their petty fights. My sister grew up with three brothers (she was the second youngest and 3 years younger than I) and was a tomboy. When she went off to college and eventually shared a house with some girls, she was horrified at how nasty they could be to each other, i.e. putting down each other's hair/clothes and a bunch of petty sh!t. If you put a bunch of boys/men in a room, they will generally get along and become fast friends. If you put a bunch of girls/women in a room, they are usually wary of each other and may form cliques. Why is that? My older brother (who is one year my senior) and I often got along. Admittedly, at times we did fight like cats and dogs as kids, but once in our teens and in high school, we were the best of friends and hardly ever fought. I think Sam and Charlie were probably the same. Since the series began when they're already in high school, of course, we didn't get to see how they were as kids.

To supplement my post: I just read Kristy's Book, and she describes Sam and Charlie as being inseparable, even as tykes, and she often wished she could join them in their 'big kid' activities. She also mentions in the chapter "On Our Own" that Charlie and Sam began fighting after their father deserted the family. In one instance, Sam blamed their mother for their dad walking out, which made her cry and which made Charlie rip Sam an new one. But then they went back to being good friends again, after everything calmed down and they got used to being without Dad and became more helpful toward their mother.

I do wish Charlie and Sam were mentioned more often beyond Charlie driving Kristy to BSC meetings and Sam prank calling. I could see Kristy and them were pretty close until about when Elizabeth and Watson got married. So the first 6 books. Like in Kristy's Great Idea, Sam offered Kristy to play football with him and Charlie and their friends. And there is that conversation between the three siblings about the school issue in Kristy's Big Day. It is slightly annoying that Charlie and Sam are always off somewhere at a game or date or something. You'd think that they'd babysit occasionally, not just Kristy... I always liked Sam, even though Kristy can't stand him. To be honest, I wouldn't either if he's my brother, ha ha. He is goofy and loving and affectionate and a good brother in general. He is most likely smart and responsible because he's in the math club and he had a summer job since age 14. Plus, there's Sam and Stacey, which is for another thread. Charlie is great too. But to be honest, he's too wise beyond his years, and he has an old soul. He is just boring. Sorry, Charlie.
