Why didn't Charlie get an actual job? He could've worked at the ever popular Rosebud Cafe or maybe Pizza Express and made a lot more than the $$ he earned carting Kristy back and forth to meetings!

I know huh, even Logan got a job and he is only 13. MA (elf) and Stacey (day care) both had one for a brief period also.

I've been wondering how Logan got that job. Don't you usually have to be at least 14? I think in MI the law might even be 15 to work at someplace like that. Maybe CT is different? Another reason it would have made more sense for the BSC to be older.

I also wondered how Logan got hired at the Rosebud Cafe!! 13 years old! That's got to be against some sort of child labor law! I didn't get my first job til I was nearly 18 years old.. haha.

Because I'm a dork, I looked up the CT law. You have to be at least 14 to get a job and at least 16 to work in a restaurant/food service. I guess it might have been different back then. Isn't it weird that all these 13 year olds have jobs anyway? They're like trying to be mini adults.

^ even Stacey was employed by Bellairs at only 13... that wouldn't be legal where I live.
I thought it was a bit mean of Stacey's mother to insist she get a job and not just lie around the house all day during summer. The girl was only 13 after all - still a kid! Plus it wasn't like Stacey's mother was exactly a hard-working go-getter until divorce forced her into it.

Who wants to have a job at age 13, anyway? Especially when you're already babysitting a couple days a week after school and on weekends!
Back on topic: To me, it always seemed like we were supposed to think of Charlie and Sam as these cool high school kids doing cool high school stuff, but when it came down to it, they seemed pretty dorky.

Yeah, what's that about? Stacey got a job before she ever did. It's not enough that she's practically a professional babysitter? When my parents didn't want me doing nothing during the summer at that age, they made me go to summer school. The kind where you actually learn new stuff, not just because you fail everything like Claudia. Have these people never heard of activities that they don't organize themselves? Even when they go to camp, they're there to take care of younger campers. Ever heard of just having some fun? Cause ya know, you have the rest of your lives to work.

Oh! Oh! In the Chapter 2 of "Stacey's Big Crush", there's a line there that says something like "usually Charlie drives Kristy to meetings". So maybe he does get the occasional day off!

I remember loving the Sam/Stacey pairing. I remember looking forward to reading Stacey-centric books to see if there was a mention of Sam in them. I guess it was my idiotic 6th-grade-mind that cooed at the idea of a high school boy and a middle school girl. As much as I love rebuilding my BSC collection, I really don't have much desire to get the later books (book 100 or so on). I guess I prefer collecting the books that I owned once when I was yonger. However, is there any later pairing of Sam/Stacey in the later books? Oh, and Charlie? The only reason I see for him to be chauffeuring the girls around as much as he did and as readily as he did is that he had it baaad for one of them. I'm going with either Stacey, Dawn or Mary Anne.

No, Sam/Stacey completely disappear after she gets with Robert (around 70-something, wasn't it?).

hee good theory about Charlie. Maybe he's had a crush on MA since she was a little girl or something... you know he's kinda creepy like that.

That would be REALLY creepy if Charlie had a crush on Mary Anne since she was a little girl! Though I suppose he would've been little too... I was just picturing 17 year old Charlie with the hots for 5 year old Mary Anne. All sorts of wrong.

^I still think it would have been creepy! He is 4 years older than her, so even 17 and 13 is wrong, let alone 15 and 11 or something like that. (I'm looking at you, Toby and Mallory!)
