Sometimes I don't like Mrs. McGill but usually I do. I just finished Stacey and the Bad Girls and really appreciated Mrs. McGill's scolding of Stacey after the concert. I liked what she said about the girls not being Stacey's real friends and "advising" her not to be friends with them. I really enjoy reading about her close relationship with Stacey in a lot of other books, too. I have a very close relationship with my mom (and dad) and am an only child, so I can relate to that. I wish Stacey wouldn't be so snobby to her, though, but realize that is "typical" for a 13 year old - especially a cool one like Stacey And I admit that I'm not always the nicest to my own parents (though in different ways)

I like how even though Mrs. McGill can seem kind of irresponsible/flaky with all of her shopping, she's still a good mom to Stacey. She's always there when Stacey needs her, and she keeps her in line when necessary. She sounds like a fun mom who you can spend the day shopping with, but who doesn't try to cross the line and be like one of your girlfriends.

Mrs. McGill seems like one of the more normal parents in the books most of the time.

I always liked the relationship Mrs. McGill and Stacey. They seemed to have a close relationship. The relationship also always seemed fairly normal to me.

Congrats, Lyricalangel! I love seeing a close mother/daughter relationship as my mom and I have always been really close. I actually don't know what I'd do without her I like the relationship between Dawn and her mother too. Once in a while, some of the other ones are good (Mal and her mom in Mallory Hates Boys and Gym and Jessi in Jessi Pet Sitter are 2 that come to mind). I like Mrs. McGill in European Vacation and think Stacey is obnoxious to her at first.

I like Maureen, and although she isn't perfect, I don't see much wrong with how she acted. Yes, she could have gotten a job, but maybe it didn't occur to her, or maybe Mr McGill was one of those men who wanted his wife not to work, who knows? Shopping out of boredom is quite common I think. Anyway, she always seemed lonely to me, but a great mum.

^Agreed. I felt bad for her later in the series, she did seem really lonely esp when Mr McGill was traipsing around NY with his new gf.
And I would love to be able to afford to shop out of boredom so I won't bag on her for that =-P

^ Agreed, too. I always liked it when they showed friendships between Mrs. McGill and other people like Mrs. Pike. I didn't mind that things didn't work out with Mr. Brooke as I don't think that someone necessarily needs a man to be happy but would have liked to see her have more relationships with other parents (would have liked more interaction between all the parents, actually)

I don't mind her relationship with Mr Brooke not working out, either, but mostly because he sounded like a total jerk. I just felt bad for her when Mr McGill got with Samantha. But Stacey never made too big of a deal about her mom not dating, so I'm thinking that possibly she married young and never really lived her own life and is maybe enjoying doing that now.

I've been thinking about how I really like Mrs. McGill more in the later books. Maybe this is because she seems more developed as a character. I also enjoy her relationship with Stacey more in the later books. They seem closer after the divorce and after Stacey's Emergency, maybe, she seems to give Stacey more freedom (not the right word) or at least not worry as much, which is nice to see. Still, she seems to really support her and I like how they can talk about things and spend time together.

And I would love to be able to afford to shop out of boredom so I won't bag on her for that =-P I remember Mr. McGill didn't seem to think they could afford that. ;D

i think once mrs. mcgill gets divorced she grows up a lot. i think she was really just depressed and bored in her marriage.

^ That's what I think too. And who could blame her being unhappy while married to Ed??? ;D
