Isn't there a fanfic where Mrs. McGill dates Mr. Prezzizzo? I love that idea! Plus, given how much younger his kids are are than Stacey, would he be younget than her? I can totally see Mrs. McGill with a younger man.

Sorry if I'm thread jacking, but has anyone ever thought that Maureen was a lesbian? Unhappy in her remarriage, her one attempt at dating doesn't work out, married young?

Sorry if I'm thread jacking, but has anyone ever thought that Maureen was a lesbian? Unhappy in her remarriage, her one attempt at dating doesn't work out, married young? I think her reasoning was a decent one: she didn't want to have to take care of 3 people (including herself). Two was enough. Why I think this: In Stacey McGill . . . Matchmaker, Maureen specifically turned down, what's his face (Charlie?), because she thought that the only reason he wanted the relationship was so he could have help supporting himself. So I don't think that she was necessarily a lesbian, just wasn't looking for a "man."

I dislike this line of thinking very much, otempora. And who says Mrs. McGill married young, anyway? That is not information ever given to us. Just because she doesn't immediately want to get married after a divorce (unlike everyone else in bscland) doesn't make her a lesbian. my mom has never dated after her divorce. it doesn't make her a lesbian. Divorce can be really, really painful.

Hanging out with boys doesn't make you a lesbian either! I have a lot more guy friends than girl friends.

I like her relationship with Stacey. I like that she didn't get remarried like so many of the parents of Stoneybrook.

I love Maureen! I think she is one of my favourite parents. And like greer, in my adult like I have found a new love for Maureen and Stacey. She was especially cool in the later books when she stopped harping on Stacey about her diabetes.

OK. Over a month later and I have something to add about Maureen. I don't know if this has been talked about, but I always thought Maureen becoming a buyer at Bellairs was very unlikely in the real-world. Especially in today's economy. We know Maureen did go to college, but whatever she majored in -- and even if she had retail or fashion experience -- I doubt she'd land a buyers position. Especially since she's been away from work for at least 13 years. I think I remember Stacey saying her mom did seasonal help at a retail store when she was little. Most likely, a buyers job would go to someone with way more fashion and business experience. It's more likely that Maureen could have become a store manager or something.

^Part-time job in the children’s clothing department at Macy’s. Was it ever mentioned when she quit?

I can't remember. Was it mentioned in Stacey's Portrait? I guess I assumed it was a seasonal job that she maybe did over the holidays over the span of a few years or something.

I definitely agree; when I read that she had become a buyer for Bellair's I was like "Yeeeah right!" That kind of position would be so difficult to land. I think Maureen would have been unlikely to land anything (at first) more than a sales position. (Also, where does it mention that she went to college?)
