Aww, I like the name Andrea! Though yeah, Nancy Dawes is very old-lady.

Is Laine pronounced "lane"? If so, how is that even a name?

^ I've always pronounced it "lane" ... strange name, that's for sure. But this IS the series that featured a Sunshine Daydream.
I never saw Karen as an adult name - I've known a few Karens around my age - but Nancy? I have to agree, that's ridiculous for a little girl.

But all old-lady Nancys must have been young at SOME point! People aren't just born as old ladies... So all those Ediths and Enids must've been little girls at some stage.

^Yep, and then they change their name to Elizabeth. I'm sure it doesn't help that these books were written 20 years ago.

I thought the opposite was true too. Some of the kids had cute "kid" names but would sound strange when they hit grandparent age. Marnie Barett and Skylar Korman (the first trendy name I remember appearing in the books) come to mind.
I liked Nina and Eleanore Marshall. Pretty at any age.

Well of course all Nancy's and Edith's, etc were little girls at one time, but at that time those were popular children's names. Now they are popular old ladies names! I agree on Marnie and Skylar! Esp Marnie.

^ Speaking of trendy names, was there ever a Maddison in the BSC series? ;D

Oh my gosh.. Marnie. Seriously, what the hell kind of name is Marnie?! Oh and Bill Korman. He was, what, 8 or 9? Then why does he have a name for a 45 year old man?

I was going to mention Bill Korman! You'd think he'd still be in the "Billy" stage of his life. I wasn't too fond of Melody either. The Korman parents were 0-3 in the baby name department.
The heavy boy's name...Norman? Norman. Geeky name, his parents must have hated him on sight.

^ And it just sucks that Ann gave him the last name, Hill. At least it is not mountain.

As for the re-use of certain names, there were a few Graces...Grace Blume, Grace Walker, Gracie Schafer-Olson. And random people named Liz...Liz Lewis from the Babysitters Agency, Liz the psycho in Haunted Masquerade, Liz Hoyer, the annoying girl they meet in BSC in the USA, so on.
I thought Druscilla, Mrs. Porter's granddaughter, was an interesting name and I liked the name Cary Retlin...and he had a brother named Steig or something. I think they got that name from a real person.

In my translated book, there are about 15 different names, used for all the characters. They just had no inspiration whatsoever. Like Cokie and Janine had the same name, and so did Mallory and Logans sister (sorry, I don't know her English name, though I'm pretty sure it's not Mallory) and Laine and Carolyn (one of the twins) it's so annoying. And some of the other names are really ridiculous, not even names at all, I wonder where they made them up. It has always bugged me how often names are repeated, but I never knew this was also the case in the original series.
