How close were they? In Claudia and the First Thanksgiving, they all get together and have that huge dinner, but are the parents/siblings even friends outside of the BSC? I never really noticed much interaction between the BSC parents. In that dinner, it seemed that the BSC were the link that held it together... Isn't that a bit unusual? Wouldn't the parents have other friends or something that they'd be closer to, rather than the families of the friends of their daughters?

Well, I haven't read that, so I'm not sure who all are involved. But the Thomases, Kishis and Spiers were neighbors for a long time, and I'm guessing they're pretty friendly. And Stacey's mom probably doesn't know that many people. But yeah, everything always revolves around the BSC. Going on vacation? Gotta make sure the whole club goes! What? Sam and Charlie are busy that week? Oh well, too bad for them! And who invites their kids' friends to their wedding? Okay, so usually there aren't kids yet, but c'mon.

Everyone in the BSC's families are involved, except for Shannon and Logan. But the Thomas/Brewers, Schafer/Spiers, Kishis, McGills, Pikes and Ramseys are all there (36 people for dinner).

Well, who else would want to deal with the Pike brood with food? And I guess no one else in town would invite the Ramseys over, because, well, I'll just be up front about it, there's no other way to say it: they have cocoa colored skin. Darkish cocoa.

I think it was in Mary Anne Saves the Day that Mary Anne said Elizabeth had been like a second mother to her, but I never saw that relationship at all. Mary Anne bonded with Mimi when she was alive, but I don't remember any deep conversations with Elizabeth.
Mrs. McGill and Mrs. Pike seemed pretty friendly. Mrs. Pike baked her casseroles and stuff when she and Stacey moved in behind the Pike house. Plus Stacey did the whole mother's helper thing a few times. You'd hope there'd be some talking among the parents before they let Stacey go out of town with them for a few weeks.
The siblings. Jeff and the triplets were great friends. Weren't Vanessa and Charlotte Johansen friends? So Becca probably hung out with her too. Everyone seemed to hate Janine just because Claudia did. Sam and Stacey had their little romance but he didn't really interact with anyone else. Of course Charlie probably knew everyone the best since he was always with them. Sam/Charlie/DM didn't seem at all close to Mary Anne even though she grew up next door and was best friends with their sister. That's a little weird. The only ones that didn't have much of a relationship with anyone were Karen and Andrew, but they grew up across town and Karen had her own group of best friends at her school.
Heh. That reminds me of when Jackie and Mel got married on 90210 and Jackie had Kelly, Donna and Brenda be her bridesmaids. So not realistic.

That's true, sparklymouse... I suppose indivdually, there were some friendships. I just never pictured the whole group of them in a big, family-friend sort of situation. ktag: lol

I loved the friendship of Mrs Pike/McGill. I always thought Stacey/Mal should be closer because of it. I mean Stacey and her mom could've been going over to dinner at the Pikes or something in a few books - its not like the Pikes would notice 2 more mouths

^ I just posted about that in another thread. ;D Would have liked more interaction between the Pikes and Ramseys, too, and really all the parents. Liked the big Thanksgiving party in the one book.

I think Mary Anne and the Secret of the Attic said that Kristy and Mary Anne's mothers were friends before Mary Anne's mom died.

^ I missed that reference. It would have been nice to see more interaction then between MA and Elizabeth. I can never understand, anyway, why MA wasn't closer to Kristy's mom. It was nice that she was close to Mimi but I wish there had been more interaction with Elizabeth as a "mom" figure. But I guess Elizabeth barely had enough time for her own kids let alone an "extra".

^good point, aln. I wonder if MA maybe felt like she'd be intruding if she went to Elizabeth because the woman was so busy and everything as it was. Plus, MA doesn't really seem like to the type to feel comfortable approaching adults for help (well, like any of the BSC ever want to do that, lol, but you know what I maen) which is why I think they made such a big deal about her relationship with Mimi.

I know I've mentioned this a million times before but I would have liked seeing more interaction between the BSC members and their family. Not just with their parents but also extended family - grandparents, siblings, etc. I know many of them didn't have extended family in Stoneybrook but on visits and times like that, I would have liked more of a feeling for their relationship. I know a lot of families beyond (and of course within ;D) the immediate family are estranged or don't communicate but others are very close. I didn't get this feeling of closeness from any of the extended families. I guess the authors just didn't see it as important.
