I wonder what Mrs. Porter's real name is. I'm sure it's something dull like Alice or Sue. When she signed Karen's cast in Karen's Roller Skates, her name was Tabitha, which made me roll my eyes a little, as did her granddaughter Druscilla later on. Come on, how much more obvious could we possibly make it that this character is witchy? If my neighbor's bratty little kid kept spying on me I'd be very annoyed. Watson's family must really drive property values down on their street with a couple of junky cars (the Junk Bucket, the Pink Clinker) always parked outside and the annoying kids who were constantly playing outside and likely screaming their heads off. (No need to use an indoor voice outside, after all!)

It really annoys me how things like that, which relate to the BSC canon but are revealed in LS books, aren't included in The Complete Guide To The BSC. How hard is it to list her as Mrs. Tabitha Porter/Morbidda Destiny? That's annoying. Just like how the Delanys entry simply says, "Moved away" and doesn't give a location because the move occured in a LS book.
I live in a brand-new, nice neighborhood and the people directly across the street set up a giant slip-and-slide (an actual slide with stairs) in their front yard. That's totally something the Brewers would do. Watson may be a millionaire, but he certainly has no problem tacky-ing up the neighborhood.

^Heh, Costco?
I don't understand why they play in the front yard so much. I imagine their backyard is huge, so why not play there?

I think that would have made a great babysitting subplot. Karen finds out about maiden names and learns that Dawn's mom's middle name is Porter. She then becomes convinced that Dawn is related to Mrs. Porter. This means she's convinced that she's a witch and is terrified of her. I could totally see that happening.

^ Ha ha. I can totally see this, too. It would be a good subplot.

I don't think she was a cranky old lady. The only times she really got mad were when Boo-Boo would use her flower beds as a litter box. That'd tick me off too. I love cats but that doesn't mean I want the neighborhood ones in my yard.
I remember in a Kristy book where Morbidda invited everyone over for "fresh squeezed" lemonade and Kristy saw a lemonade mix on the counter and realized that Morbidda was just lonely.

I always loved Morbidda Destiny. Whenever their was a mention or a subplot with her I got excited.I felt bad for how lonely she seemed though.

I agree that Morbidda is probably just lonely and maybe a bit eccentric. (Isn't her brother a magician or something?) I can totally see how she might be scary for a kid, though. I know people who have scared me just based on their appearance because they remind me of something - in poor Morbidda's case, a witch (I just read a book where Kristy says she doesn't blame Karen for thinking she's a witch because she sometimes wonders too Anyway, I've never much cared one way or another for Morbidda but do feel a little sorry for her loneliness now that I think about it (also feel bad because I kind of picture her as a witch - but a "good witch"

This actually sounds fun ;D Anyone ever have a slip in slide? I don't think I'd put one in my front yard, though. Back to Mrs. Porter/Morbidda, in another thread I saw after I posted on this one that some people think she knows people view her as a witch and uses this to her advantage. I agree with this. I almost think she kind of enjoys "scaring" kids (not in a mean way, though). As for her being lonely, she does have Dru and a daughter, now that I think of it. But I think people can be lonely even when surrounded by others.

^I once tried to make a slip and slide in my backyard with an old, ragged tarp. There weren't even any hills! Talk about tacky!!!

Oh I loved slip & slides as a kid, but now? I'd be terrified to go on one. Well, plus now I live in AZ where there is NO GRASS so you'd be setting it up on rock... as a kid if there was even one rock under the tarp thing, you found out immediately! I'd also be scared of sliding off it and getting like, grass burn on my skin. haha. and throwing yourself down on it to slide? Sounds kinda painful...
