It never really registered with me until I started posting here how weird the BSC was about outside friends. There was really nothing wrong with Claudia wanting to devote more time to her art. She's 13, and exploring interests is part of growing up! I think Ashley was a bit too obsessed, though. There's such a thing as balance, too.

Bell bottoms are flares aren't they? No, flares start to come out slightly just above the ankle and are basically the kind of pants women wear today. Like regular jeans. Bell-bottoms on the other hand flare out at the knee and cover almost your whole foot. Think 70's pants. That's what Ashley was wearing and why Claudia had a problem with them, it was like more than a decade late to be wearing those pants!!!

^Claudia is in absolutely no position to judge other peoples' fashion choices, imo.

Was it Claudia, though? I thought it was Stacey who made a pointed reference to them in a notebook entry. "Why Claudia would want to hang out with someone who wears bell-bottom blue jeans, I don't know", or something like that.

^Oh yeah, you may be right I'll have to re-read, I love that book! Geesh Stacey is the biggest freakin' snob ever. Reminds me of in Math Whiz when she's freaking out about how dorky the mathletes are and how cool she is in comparison. I'm surprised she's willing to hang out with Mallory and Kristy.

Yeah, it was Stacey who had a problem with the bell-bottoms. Claudia probably thought they were totally dibble! I'll never understand why bell-bottoms were so unacceptable but Claud's outfits were considered the height of fashion.

I liked Ashley purely because she was so weird. Sculpting a fire hydrant? And being dead-serious about it? What an awesome kid. A little intense, but hey, as people have said, you're not going to become a famous artist by making sculptures of Tigger the kitten in your spare time between baby-sitting gigs.

i didnt really like ashley, she was odd but the bsc were bitches to her for no reason. just cos claudia hung around her for a few afternoons doesnt mean they had to be mean to her.
and bellbottoms are much less weird than all the clothes claudia and stacey wore.

I always found Ashley a little weird, but I didn't mind the weirdness. I did enjoy her passion for art.

At the end of Claudia and the New Girl, Claud sees Ashley at school and DOES say she looks weird in her clothes. God, Claudia...

Sounds typical of a 13 year old girl...

^Yes, but Claudia judging other peoples outfits? Seriously? I would've laughed in her face.

I was glad to see Ashley show up again in Claudia Kishi Live from WSTO - even though I don't like her very well. I did think she was kind of funny in this book and thought it was nice how she left Claudia the Crunch bar with the note at the end.
