I think it's best to get rid of the whle lot of them and stick the bsc in charge. Honestly, these dudes are wack! Really, the wouldn't be able to catch a cold let alone a criminal. More notible of their being unable to crack a case (as I've just re-read them) are: Kristy and the Cat Burgular, and 'Claudia and the clue in the photograph'. Why did not one of the officers apart from Sgt. Johnson question the reliability of the 'evidence' found in Mr Golem's house? Did they search the house in the dark? Why did they not check out his 'in france' alibi? All they needed to do was check his passport. And there was abit where the woman officer says something like 'I had been beginning to start to suspect golem was manipulating Winters'- Really! I remember this foolish person had the wool pulled over her eyes, too. Not only that, she only expressed these concerns when the bsc told her their suspicions. She told no-one before. Do not get me started on the 'clue in the photograph'. All i'm going to ask is- was there no cctv outside/inside the banks back then?

ITA that the Stoneybrook police were pretty much useless. Didn't the BSC decide to stop solving mysteries eventually? The Stoneybrook police force was such a toolbox, crime probably increased, like, exponentially when that happened.

It's no wonder there's so much crime in Stoneybrook. For such an upscale town, or maybe because it's an upscale town, it seems to be a hot spot for crime. Of course, if the BSC actually told the police everything they knew instead of keeping evidence to themselves, the police might actually have a chance. Or not.

The BSC decided to stop solving mysteries after Kristy and the Cat Burglar, when they realised "Hey! We might actually get hurt if we keep getting caught up with crims!". What I don't get is HOW the BSC can be so good... In Abby and the Secret Society, they single-handedly (almost) solved a mystery that David left to Sgt. Johnson! How are they so clever?!

It strikes me as really funny that in #35 and #36, Abby and Kristy both talk about that Sgt Johnson is hot. (Essentially). I don't remember him ever being described before, but Abby's all "He's pretty cute for a grown-up!" and Kristy talks about his blue eyes. Aside from the fact that they seem like they'd be the least likely to care (where art thou, boy-crazy Stacey?), there's something both funny and weird about it. Maybe because a policeman who took you seriously as detectives would be a totally obvious crush for a thirteen-year-old girl, and the books are so stubbornly trying to avoid going there, but they can't resist him!

According to the CG he's tall with blue eyes and black hair...
I always pictured him as a greying fat fifty-year-old policeman.

Hee. I didn't even know they said that, because I've never read the last two mysteries. Mystery #35 is the only BSC book I still don't own, and for some reason I don't want to read M#36 until I've read M#35.

I remember suddenly skipping ahead very far in the series and being annoyed that they were all of a sudden so buddy-buddy with the cops. It's the biggest cliche in kid/ teen mysteries ever- every other book I've read that involved mystery solving always had the characters being friends with cops. I dunno, I liked that the BSC didn't really fall into that area... then they did.

I haven't read any of the later mysteries... I think the last one I read was Dawn and the Surfer Ghost, so I'm rather lost on this thread

Nah, I always thought he was a bit of a hunk. Heh heh. lol me too. I figured he was pretty dreamy. I hadn't read the one where Abby and Kristy discuss his looks, and I like that it came up. I always assumed the girls thought he was handsome but just never said so.

I think it was in Abby and the Secret Socitey where I first thought, "Hmm, that Sergeant Johnson's a bit hot".

Heh heh. Too bad they never gave him a pic. But pics are all in Super Specials, and he's not featured in any of their plots.

Is it just me, or are the cops like the parents just idiots?
