I just finished reading "Claudia Gets Her Guy" (FF #7), and I really liked the portrayal of him in that book. He definitely shows his softer side, like when he makes Claudia a heart-shaped pin out of Sculpey (whatever that is).
As for the movie portrayal of Alan, I'm in total agreement with morbiddadestiny: It all seemed completely random (i.e., the crush on Dawn). To me, it wasn't Alan at all. Not even close.
*Modified because "whatever" is not spelled "whatver". LOL

^ ;D Unless you're Claudia (but she wouldn't catch hers). ;D I haven't watched the movie but Alan having a crush on Dawn seems really weird and out of character. I definitely don't see it in any of the books.

I really like Alan. I thought it was weird when in Kristy and the Missing Child, and a Justin (I think) won class clown over Alan. I had never heard of him, but oh well. I just finished reading FF Claudia Get's Her Guy. I thought he was so cute in that book! I also always liked him with Kristy and thought it was a perfect example of how guys tease those they like. It was nice to see a more serious side of Alan though. I actually really like Claudia with Alan. I am not even sure why.

^ i'm thinking justin was the guy who called stacey's party in #10 asking for the pig farm. My favourite Alan moment is actually in the book where Lynn is born (#98, the name of the book escapes me right now). While in Philidelphia, Alan decides to test the echo of an alley by neighing like a horse. For some reason, that still cracks me up to this day. hahahahaha. that is my favorite part too. in this book claudia makes a comment about how abby must have a writer because she comes up with the craziest stuff, and i always thought alan was just as funny but he didn't get any credit. no fair. i actually adore alan. in the movie he was ridiculously hot, so that definitely helps :] but i think he's so funny and he's the kind of guy i usually went for in high school. it's been years since i read any FF books, but if i were kristy i would be SO JEALOUS that the guy i had a love-hate relationship with (and we all know she really liked him even if she didn't admit it) was suddenly going out with my lifelong friend. and somehow dawn randomly got thrown into the mix when she agrees to go out with alan in the movie. it was kind of crazy how many girls he got. but clearly, since he got dates with the three girls who seemed the most annoyed by him, he obviously had some charm we didn't get to hear much about.

I bet Alan and Sam are really similar. I bet Sam was silly when he was a bit younger, and that Alan would grow up into the good guy that Sam turns out to be.

It's hard to imagine Alan dating anyone in the BSC. It was difficult for me to imagine him and Claudia dating in FF. I don't necessarily know whether I like Alan or not but I enjoy reading about the BSC despising him!

I agree with Wenonah4th. If Alan were ever given a true chance (also grew up) I think he'd surprise a lot of people at how a good a person he was and how hot became in terms of looks.

^I thought he was pretty hot in the movie. Not sure what was up Dawn's butt in that because he wasn't even annoying. He was just a cute, goofy guy who wanted to hang out with her!

And I bet Sam was a silly kid, too.

I haven't seen the movie in forever so don't remember Dawn/Alan. I do remember how hot Luca was, however.

I thought Alan was kind of pasty and I hated his hair, but the actor was on an episode of "The Practice" a few years after the movie and I thought he was cute in that.

I think his behavior is typical for a thirteen year old boy. I think he and Claudia make a good couple. Just like with Will from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Alan is, without a doubt, my favorite guy character in all the books. I absolutely adore him to no ends!

Reading Phantom Phone Calls right now, and wondering, do you think Alan got over his crush on Kristy? If so, when? By the time he dates Claudia obvs. I wish he and Kristy had more of a thing, but I guess early on they wanted to keep her as a 'kid', and then Bart came along and they forgot about Alan.
