I like Samantha okay... which is why I wish she wasn't dating Mr. McGill, because I don't like him!

I could see Mr. McGill being really arrogant in the office, and having a huge ego. Can anyone picture him talking down to his secretary, acting like he's too good to answer his own phone?

^ Definitely. I can also picture him "working late" not because he's really working but because he's having an affair or something. In some books, I like him okay but he just seems like a "jerky" kind of guy (to use Kristy's word ;D) with a big ego.

I always kind of figured she was the newer younger woman Ed went after because he's got a high powered job and must have lots of money. I just picture Samantha as a trophy girlfriend that makes Ed feel good about himself because he managed to snare her. That's mean I know, but with my dislike of him, it fits in my mind. That's kind of how I see her, too. I totally see her as a young (29 or 30 year-old) blonde woman, definitely the trophy girlfriend type. Other than that, I don't really have an impression of her, or her relationship with Ed.

Samantha's okay. I never thought much about her but I didn't' mind her when she appeared in the books.

i always pictured samantha as merideth from the parent trap, because that's the kind of character i felt she was. what sort of grown woman would agree to sneak around an island to be with her much older boyfriend without his daughter knowing? that just seems shady.

I don't think Samantha is a bad person/stepmother figure. I think Ed was nervous about dealing with Stacey's reaction. My dad is also a workaholic with a much younger second wife, so maybe I cut them more slack since I can relate.

for me it's the fact that samantha was okay sneaking around, and didn't insist on doing things out in the open. if my boyfriend wanted me to go behind his kid's back because he wasn't sure how she would react to me, i wouldn't be okay with that. i wouldn't want to be a secret.

I thought there was a thread "Ed McGill". I couldn't find it but maybe I missed it.
Anyway, in Stacey's Mistake -- in the first chapter -- where Stacey asks Maureen and Ed whether the BSC can visit NYC, she meets Ed when he comes into the door and he "takes off his glasses". I've never pictured Ed with glasses. I'm assuming they're not just for reading, either. Now this kind of ruins my image of him. He isn't wearing glasses in the portrait in the back of Stacey's books. Maybe he wears them only some of the time?

Yeah, the glasses ruin my image of him too. I only think of Richard as the dad with glasses ;D I've always pictured Ed looking like he does in the Maine illustration in Stacey's Book. It's funny which images stick with you over the years.

Ed and Jack kind of look similar. Then again, Dawn and Stacey *kind of* look similar too (not just because they're both blondes)

I'm lame and I just looked up Ed's apartment on Google Maps. If anyone's interested: 321 east 65th street NYC
