^ I don't remember her job exactly but I am curious as to how much money a journalist/publisher earns since I'm assuming that's what she's working at. I would have to look up her job later on.

Wasn't she an editor, a senior one?

That might be her job. Again, I don't remember.

blog.stoneybrookite.org/2014/02/15/the-stevensons-secretly-super-rich/i researched how much an executive editor would make and stuff, since the Stevensons had a huge house full of all-new furniture in Watson's neighborhood. I came to the conclusion that they must have family money (see the grandparents' Hamptons beach house). But then their LI house seemed to be on the small side, so it's confusing.

I always thought Mr. Stevenson had a large life insurance policy payout.

I always thought Mr. Stevenson had a large life insurance policy payout. He was an environmental engineer, though. Not exactly the kind of job that would give you a policy that nets your relatives a mansion when you die. There could have been a lawsuit after the accident, but I don't know how that would work. It was weird to me that promotion=middle class-to-mansion.

Life insurance is really just another form of investing. Maybe he bought larger coverage after he had the twins. Otherwise, I'd think Mrs. Stevenson would be in the same place financially after a promotion when you subtract her husband's salary that she was no longer getting.

Yeah, I am wondering if her parents had set up some kind of trust that you only get at, say, 40. Or Ann just sincerely believes that book editors get millions of dollars. Perhaps it was just her editors hinting at a raise.

I don't know Mrs. Stevenson well enough to really comment on her one way or another. I did love Mr. Stevenson's character and wish he had been alive and part of the series. I just had the sudden thought that maybe I like him because he is similar to Seth. I definitely have become a huge Seth fan as he seems to most always have Andrew and Karen at and in his heart and isn't afraid/has no problem making sure they know it. I'm referring to his character in general but also how he seems to be just as excited about holidays as the kids are and when he made the bench for Karen's school in Karen's Hurricane, I wanted to hug him, such a nice guy. I imagine Abby's dad as like that, too, just older. In some of the earlier books, Claudia and the Big Joke for one, Dawn often stayed at the Kishis for dinner. I always wished we had gotten to read about her doing so. I think Abby could have been a friend to Dawn and vice versa and perhaps been a support to one another. Dawn I really don't believe ever truly felt that CT=home. I think Abby often felt alone in her thoughts, too. A friendship between them might have made both more endearing and a much more interesting (to me) thing to read about than say Abby being a bad sport at soccer or Dawn's Green School. Back to Mrs. S, I do agree that from my memory of her character (I haven't read any books Abby has been in outside of MA and the Music Box Mystery) for a long time, she didn't come across as very loving or spending a lot of time with her daughters. I don't remember if she wore the bathrobe all the time or if it just hung on her bedroom door. I know when I was in college, it gave me comfort to wear a jean jacket a friend had given me simply because it was a reminder, a physical reminder, that someone did care. I think if the robe brought back good memories for Abby's mom and/or helped her to carry on and that's great. On the money topic, I also wondered how Mrs. S could afford a mansion with completely brand new furnishings. I know it was the promotion that allowed her to do this. Does anyone remember how long she had been working there?

^I had no idea, thanks, Greer. For some reason I thought Mrs. Stevenson was a chef for a long time and was attending or thinking about applying to the CIA. After her husband passed away, that was what led to her career change for something brand new.

She was taking classes there, which doesn't make sense because it's actually relatively far from NYC and would not be really convenient for someone on LI to get to on a regular basis.

I always just saw her as a workaholic. Sort of a female Ed McGill in that way - remember how Stacey and her mom go on about him working all the time?
