^ No! Thanks for warning me so I didn't read that one. I don't plan to read the CA Diaries anyway and that is definitely another reason. I'm kind of surprised that they did that. But I guess Diaries have more weighty issues than BSC books, which only kill of minor characters like Amelia (I prefer this if anyone has to die

like how they gave Sunny a few wooden & cloth toys as a kid instead of tons of plastic crap that will break in a month anyway. I thought her toys sounded very cute, and her room too (the tie-dyed bedspread, the dove poster, a wooden rainbow, etc.) I especially liked her stuffed crocodile, Captain, and how it's mentioned again in the Halloween mystery

In BSC, Sunny really has almost no personality beyond the daughter of hippies.
In CD, I liked that she became her own person and grew as a character, and turned out to be a BAD girl- not stacey's new friends, but bad- older guy dating, navel pierced, class ditching badass. Although I end up hating Mr.Winslow a LOT.

I agree with you there, otempora541. I didn't like him much in CD either. Instead of being there for Sunny, he was more concerned about his bookstore. I understand that it wasn't easy for him either and he dealt with Mrs. Winslow's cancer by putting more time and energy into the bookstore, but d**n! He was a crappy dad to Sunny until the Sunny's third diary.
I like Sunny in both BSC and CD. I liked how Sunny was cool, calm, and collected when the black-out occurred in the mall in Dawn's Portrait Collection. She must have gotten that from her mother. I felt bad for Sunny in CD. Her mom died and it seems like her family didn't help her much with her emotions while Mrs. Winslow was still alive.

I never really felt much of a connection with Sunny. I did read the first few California Diaries books, and I still have my original copies of the first 3, so I am going to re-read them soon and maybe re-post later. But now I have a new appreciation for the hippy vibe of the Winslows.

I was stamped as Sunny in the bsc_stamped lj community, which is doing CA Diaries stamps this month... Not sure how to take that.

I adored Sunny in CA Diaries. Lerangis did a brilliant job with her character.

I liked Sunny in CA Diaries too, she made me mad at times, but she was going through a rough time.

^ Sunny was an interesting character. I can't remember if I ever read all of the CD books, but I was always interested in what Sunny's storylines. She was different and more complex than most BSC characters.

I really felt for Sunny in her diaries. I couldn't imagine going through what she went through.

I adored Sunny. She just pops off the page, I think she had a lot of traits other BSC characters shared, but we see so much less of her that she didn't get Flanderized like them, where you're just like... 'Oh, ANOTHER book in which Stacey breaks up with a guy/Mallory feels insecure/Kristy pulls rank.'
She had quite a dry wit and I love the early hippy stuff, I was sorry they all lost a little of that in California Diaries; but I loved that she has a last appearance right near the end of the Friends Forever series. (Although, yeah, I found it very hard to like her father, like I know he was going through pain himself, but he really does the bare minimum as a parent.)
She could be difficult, but honestly, I always found her sympathetic, unlike Dawn's reaction to her. (TBH, at her worst, she was probably only ever equally as verbally cruel as the BSC, and I'd see your mom's terminal illness as a lot more warranting of acting out than, idk, your best friend gets a haircut, or someone skips a meeting to hang out with a new friend.)
