^ It didn't specify. Kristy just thought that she might be his girlfriend or his wife.

I guess I assumed Zoey -- and the gf/wife that we met in BSC in the USA -- were the same person.

I never understood why he got married AGAIN, and probably goes on to having MORE kids. My Dad did that. There is an over 10 year age gap between me and my oldest half sibling. And I wonder why a guy can be a really good Dad to some kids and not another... maybe I am venting I'm sorry. There is a 18 year gap between my older brother and my half-brother... but my dad just likes kids. I think that a lot of times the new wife just wants kids, and will rationalize that he'll be a good dad with HER kids the same way she rationalized that he'll be a good husband to HER. That's what makes me mad about Zoey because she seemed too smart to enter into such a situation.

I'm mostly indifferent to Elizabeth. However, I do agree that it was very irresponsible of her and Watson to adopt Emily Michelle, just for them to dump her with Nannie. If Elizabeth and Watson keep it up, then Emily will think Nannie as her mother.
I like Elizabeth better in the pre-married to Watson books and the Little Sister books. However she is seen so little that I have no opinion of her in pre-KBD. And I did get mad at her for not taking Kristy's concerns of moving seriously.

I don't agree that Elizabeth or Watson "dumped" Emily Michelle off on anyone, including Nannie.
It might not have had much of it in the books, but I think Elizabeth and Watson spent a fair amount of time with Emily.
When Emily had her ear operation in Karen's Little Sister, it's Elizabeth and Watson who spend the night in the hospital with Emily.
I like Elizabeth for the most part and I think she had a good relationship with her kids and stepkids.
I'm so glad that Elizabeth never tried to pressure Kristy to be more "girly."
I get the feeling that as a girl, Elizabeth was similar to Kristy.

She seems cool, I love Alicia's portrayal of her in the 2020 series. In the books she seems like a good mom, who sacrificed a lot for her kids.

I loved BrookeAdams' depiction of Elizabeth the best. I always picture Elizabeth with dark hair and brown eyes like Kristy, not blond hair and blue eyes. I suspect Elizabeth sees lots of herself in Kristy throughout the books. Elizabeth, like Kristy, seemed to be a no-nonsense, down-to-Earth leader in the books and the 1995 film.

Was it said when they started having problems? I always thought it was after DM arrived. It seemed like something about DM's existence made Patrick snap. It's been years since I read Kristy's Portrait but I remember Kristy saying her parents were arguing a lot. And despite that, it was still a surprise when Patrick up and left. I've seen Elizabeth get criticized for still working after she marries Watson but in Kristy's Big Day, she tells Kristy that she doesn't want Watson to feel obligated to pay for things for her kids. So I'm sure that's one reason she didn't quit after marrying Watson. I liked Elizabeth in the early books but I feel we didn't see her as much later in the series.

I'll admit I don't remember seeing much hate for Elizabeth still working after getting married, but it sounds bananas to me. She worked before so why wouldn't she work after?

What were they criticizing? They didn't have Emily when they got married. All of her kids were in school full time. Karen and Andrew were there every other weekend. Maybe they were just projecting their own marry-a-millionaire fantasies onto her.

Yeah, throughout the board there was a lot of "Why was Elizabeth still working after she married Watson? He's a millionaire!" much earlier on. But you're all right. Someone else pointed out that if she's anything like Kristy, she probably finds work fulfilling so there's that too. I can kind of understand the complaints she went back to work after adopting Emily Michelle but many moms continue to work full-time after having children. My only issue was she and Watson spent little time with Emily, who seemed more attached to Nannie.
