I've been thinking about some of the "older" guys in the series - Scott and Travis, especially - and how they almost seem to lead the BSC girls on. And then there is Georgio liking Claudia, Toby having a thing for Mal (isn't he in High School and she's only in 6th?), and Charlie checking out the younger girl in Mystery Money. Just wondered if anyone else thought this was a little strange. When I was younger, I knew several older boys (and had crushes on some of them at the horse shows and they were friendly to the younger girls but not like the guys in the BSC book - in a way that would almost give the girls the wrong impression (Scott calling Stacey "babe" and telling her she was beautiful being examples - realize this might have just been the way he talked, but it is obvious to me how she could have gotten the wrong impression)

Who is Georgio? I think Toby was 14, so he was probably entering his freshman year of high school, whereas Mallory was entering 6th grade for like the ninth time. That really is creepy I surely never got any attention from older boys when I was their age!

^ The guy from Baby-Sitters Haunted Mansion who is in college and thinks Claud is 16 so he invites her to his school for a visit and everything. She never does admit in person how old she really is and it's really creepy how he's interested in her, even at 16 it's bad enough. Glad I'm not alone with not getting that type of attention from older boys

Now that I am older, it seems a little creepy. When I was younger I just was oblivious. I got attention from an older boy once when I was 13, and when he found out my age he backed off!

I think maybe it's just as a way of keeping us awed by the baby-sitters, because I think lots of girls have crushes on older boys at some point in their lives, so seeing the sitters actally have their interest returned, at least initially, is ikind of like vicarious living.
The Thomas boys are the only older boys around on a regular basis I think--I'd have liked to see one or both of them kind of flirting with the girls every so often, but not with the expectation that OMG it must be tru wuv! That at least rings truer to my experience with older brothers.

I wasn't getting attention from any men, older or same age or younger, when I was thirteen. But I can see stacey not wanting an immature 13 yo boy. I personally don't generally like anyone less than three years older than me.

^ Agree with this, Greer. I can totally see myself with someone at least 10 years older. Guys seem to mature much slower and even at 24, so many of them still seem like teenagers. I was past that stage long ago (actually never really went through it I'm about to the point of retired person now ;D Anyway, back on topic...I guess the way to not be creeped out by this is to pretend the girls are older. I tend to do this to ignore other things (11 year olds being left alone, Logan and MA's "relationship", etc.) that just aren't the kind of thing that happened to me and my friends at that age.

A lot of my male friends are much older than me. I'm 27 and my two best male friends are in their 40s. But age difference is totally different when you are older. It's not really an issue.

And my answer is, "my husband is 7 years older". There's no way I could have married a guy my own age. I dated one once in college and I couldn't believe how immature he was.

Totally agree, lyricalangel about age not mattering once you reach a certain age. At 13, though, it just seems kind of creepy. I still think some of the older boys in the series are a little...not sure what word I'm looking for

Older boys are nice to dream about when you're 13, but it'd be so wrong if 17 year old boys liked 13 year olds. However, I once knew a 12 year old (very sophisticated a la stacey though ) with an 18 year old boyfriend. Scary stuff.

^ That is disturbing. There's a girl at our church who's 17 and dating a guy who's about 33 or 34. I don't know why her parents let her do that.

I know my Grandparents freaked when my aunt was 16 and wanted to date a 21 year old. Of course, my mom said she did it anyway (that might be something Stacey would do???) I don't think it's as terrible when you get to be an adult. My dad is 10 years older than my mom but they didn't start dating until she was 20. Much younger than that, though is too young, in my opinion. And 13 with 18 is really scary!
