I didn't have a lot of guy friends growing up, but I do now. I also work with mostly men, and that gets...interesting....sometimes. ;D

^My mother runs the office in an asphalt plant. None too surprisingly, she's the only woman in the place. But she's been there 8 years and I don't think it's been a problem at all.

I was just thinking about all the guys I knew who were in 9th grade. They were only a year older than Logan but they all did the romantic type of stuff that Logan did for Mary Anne for their girlfriends. When I think of that, I realize that Logan wasn't really all that unrealistic. Perhaps he just understood what Mary Anne would like and wanted to make her happy. I also think that his dad would be the type to give him money to do things for Mary Anne, especially because they said his dad liked her a lot.
I really like Alan and think he was very realistic. Josh too! I just loved Josh. His nervousness around Claudia was really nice to see.
One thing I noticed about the guys in the BSC books is that they were not too afraid of telling the girls that they liked them. I thought that was kinda weird, because when I was in middle school, you usually danced around it. In BSC land, however, guys didn't seem so terrified of asking for a date.

My weird guy experience in 8th grade was that this guy I had never spoken to wrote what was practically his autobiography (seriously, it was like a 3 page letter) and had his friend give it to me in class one day. I didn't really know how to react since I didn't even know the guy, but he started hanging out at my locker after school and kept writing me notes that I didn't respond to. I thought he was a little odd until the third or forth note that said "Are you a Christian? It's ok if you're not because I can help you become one! " Then I just thought he was creepy. (I'm not really into people, especially strangers, trying to save me. Plus that was a weird pick up line.) Finally summer vacation came along and I didn't have to see him for a while. Actually, there's 9th and 10th grade stories about the same guy, but I've rambled on long enough.

^I hate that so much. I'm just as likely to say something like "no, and I don't WANT your stupid help because... and then I list a nice long list of things I dislike about organized religions, usually ending with the person calling me some sort of name and walking away and me being all 'I don't think you are practicing what you are preaching'". Yeah, I'm kind of a b*tch like that. Stop trying to 'save' me. I'll find religion on my own, kthanxbye.
Stoneybrook guys are way more innocent then the kids on, say, Degrassi Junior High. Why wasn't I following that instead of wondering why no guy was falling in luv with me on spring break?

They're kids- they *should* be more toward the innocent side!

They were more innocent than the kids on Dawson's Creek, too. I know the DC kids weren't in middle school, but still...They (DC characters) knew way more about sex than I did at 15.

^Me too. I only ever watched that show when I was 16 (when it was the favorite show of the 12 year old I babysat all summer) and they seemed like they were way older than I was. I had had only one boyfriend and a very innocent relationship with him when I was 15! The kids on Degrassi Junior High seem older than me right now, and I am almost 21!

As much as I love Dawson's Creek I always felt that they were older than they actually were on that show.

^That's because they were. I never watched DC until last year with my roommate. It was ... well, with some shows on DVD I can watch them and I just don't want to stop. That was more of a chore to get through them after the first season. There's only so much I can take of the never ending teen drama. Now, if they had thrown in some vampire slaying or some sort of alien drama, demons to hunt down... I probably would have enjoyed the kids at Dawson's Creek much more. Instead I ended up saying "She married Tom CRUISE"? EWWWWW every five minutes. Also, "Oh, I remember him from Tiger Beat. I didn't think he was cute when I was 13, either". And then it would be back to "TOM CRUISE?" or "Shut up Dawson and comb your nasty hair"... I really should finish those DVDs.

I know what you mean about the Tom Cruise thing. I never saw his appeal.

Total change of subject from the dating thing, but I was wondering if anyone knew what books RJ Blaser has appeared in? I know he's in Stacey and the Cheerleaders, that's all the CG lists for him too, but I'm seeing if he was in others that either the CG left out, or maybe like some of the post-CG books.

My favorite middle school boy was Ben Hobart. He seemed like a caring older brother and a loyal friend.

yes I agree with alot of things being said about the guys acting too mature (especially fancy restrurants) but I also remamber watching shows like Punky Brewster in the 80's and when she was 11-13 I remember her going to dances even Cutting in , so I don't think its a 100% unrealistic.
Also in grade 6-7 I remember it was considerd cool to kiss guys , and alot of the popular kids dated for months at a time I am 27 and I had friends that got together at 13 that are still together, so I guess to me its not ALL crazy lol

About the guys, I think they're totally unrealistic. Today, a lot of guys just say they're going out with a girl but they don't care about them. I mean, all the girls have a new boyfriend every other day. I just choose to stay out of that. I don't want my heart broken every week.
I happen to like Logan, though. He really cares about Mary Anne and wants what's best for her.
