If I had been Mrs. Dawes I would have called Lisa and told her to keep Karen away from the phone. Karen probably called the poor woman every 3 hours for a month. Do you think the Dawes' were just superstitious with the no baby stuff in the house before it was born, or maybe Nancy wasn't an only child for almost 8 years by choice? (Meaning Mrs. Dawes had had miscarriages or difficulty getting pregnant again after Nancy.) I'm just super organized about stuff like that and if I was pregnant I wouldn't be able to wait until the week I was due to go out and buy all the nursery stuff. Then they didn't even have the furniture delivered until after Mrs. Dawes went to the hospital, and Karen, Nancy, and Kristy organized everything without any input from Mrs. Dawes at all! I used to make name lists like Karen did. This site's pretty cool. You can see the most popular baby names every year going back to 1880. www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

cool site, sparklymouse! yeah, i think the daweses must have had a hard time getting pregnant, and that's why they were so superstitious. remember the blanket claudia was making for peaches when she lost the baby?

Yeah, I definitely agree with the fact that the Daweses must have had a hard time getting pregnant otherwise they wouldn't be so superstitious. I'm glad that it went well and that they had no problems with bringing Danny into the world . Yeah, I felt bad for Mrs. Dawes too with Karen calling so much about the baby. If I were her, I would not only tell Lisa to keep Karen from calling her but also tell Karen directly, "Hey, quit calling my house." ;D Overall, while the book was cute, it wasn't really one of my favorites. And why on Earth was this book called Karen's Baby? I know that they have to keep Karen as the sole focus of every LS story, but I think some Nancy POV's would've been perfect here. One of the reasons I loved BSC SS's was because it gave a POV from every club member and each had their own story. In LS SS's, with the exception of Karen's Campout and Karen, Hannie and Nancy: The Three Musketeers, they were always focused on Karen just like any other book. I have no clue why they even called the remaining LS SS's "Super Specials" because they probably could've just been regular books.

Never read this book, but what? No Nancy POV's?? I only read one LS SS: Karen, Hannie and Nancy: The Three Musketeers, so I guess I just assumed that all the LS SS's had different POV's like the BSC ones did. This would have been a perfect time to elaborate on Nancy's feelings about Danny, and to maybe sneak a good message to the audience (ie, Nancy resents her brother at first, but comes to love him). I have no idea how Nancy really reacted when Danny was born, though, so I don't know. I know she was excited at the prospect in the aforementioned SS I read.

^Nancy was excited until she saw Danny for the first time. Then she was afraid of him cause he was so small and had minor health issues that made him stay in the hospital a few extra days. Based on the cover picture of him, I'd be scared too. Alien baby.
I agree that the LS Super Specials are on the lame side. They are just normal length stories with little activity pages stuck at the end.

I only did one (a word jumble in I think Karen's Mystery) and after that, I didn't do it again; they were kind of a waste of paper.

I tried to make a glitter pine cone decoration from the directions in the first SS. It was ugly. I didn't mind the riddles and how-to stuff, but I could do without the crosswords, mazes, etc. that you had to write in the book to do. At least one of them had a page that you were supposed to color. Now why would I want to color a teeny tiny picture like that?

I hated having to write in my book ;D.

They weren't supersitious...it's because they're Jewish. Jewish custom says not to have baby stuff before I baby is born I think.

^If I was a pregnant Jewish woman then that is one custom I'd have to not do. I couldn't handle not being prepared before my kid arrived. Or the possibility that my seven year old neighbor might be setting up my nursery while I'm in labor. Eek.

Oh man, I remember this book! I remember Karen making the list of names and remarking that the baby will be 10 years old by the time she finishes knitting a blanket for it! Doesn't she also beg Lisa to get pregnant too? lol

I've always loved the cover of this book. I remember when a friend first brought Karen's Baby to school. I couldn't wait to borrow it. Seems like yesterday.

I set out to read this book awhile ago and just sort of skimmed it; it didn't hold my attention. I like that Karen knits again in this book, like she did when she was in Nebraska with Granny. That's something Mary Anne could do with her when she sat for her. In LS (and in some BSC) Karen seems to like Mary Anne a lot.

This was my second favorite LS book. I loved how Karen was preparing for her own baby...seems like the kind of thing she would do.
