I know this has been said a lot here, but I'm not sure if there's a specific thread for it or not, but here goes. Do you ever find it funny how, like, if the girls are giving gifts or whatever, it has to relate to their one hobby/personality trait? Like, Mallory can't give Jessi a charm bracelet with flowers or something on it - it has to have ballet shoes. If Stacey were to give Claudia a pair of earrings, I'd bet you a hundred bucks it would be like, paintbrushes, or something (maybe junk food, but most likely art-related). Just thinking about it actually being like that makes me laugh. I am an avid reader and I really love writing, as well. Does every gift people give me have to do with that? Do I proudly sport book earrings? Of course not! Even though a few of the gifts I have recieved have to do with this, of course (a couple years ago my friend gave me this beautiful journal), it just seems so silly that everything leads back to their one defining trait. /random thought of the day

If they're going to go with the hobby theme, why not give Claudia a set of paint brushes instead of earrings shaped like paintbrushes. Or give Jessi a set of ballet shoes, or if that's too expensive, a leotard or something? I'd much rather recieve something directly to do with my hobby (i.e a book) than a representation of my hobby (i.e. a pair of earrings shaped like books).

if you have to buy presents for seven friends, i would assume you'd try to simplify things a little bit. one way to do that is to give someone something that has to do with a hobby, i guess.

I agree that buying gifts for seven friends could be quite expensive on their bsc wages so i guess they buy something simple but nice, and a safe bet is to get them something to do with their hobby. But I know what your saying nothingtolose, it is pretty funny

Agree with the points made above, but I never really liked the constant re-enforcement that Claudia's an artist, Mal's a writer, Jessi's a ballerina... I don't see why they can't be given gifts that are appreciated by most teenage girls- you know, cute teddy bears, jewellery, chocolates, pretty trinkets? (Of course, Kristy would be a hard one to give those kind of gifts to, but she's a big softie inside so.... ) I do remember Dawn getting gifts in one of the later mysteries that were pretty generic- sunglasses, perfume, stationery. I liked that. Mallory and the Trouble With Twins killed me with the earrings that MA and Kristy bought. I think they were Californian oranges and California state-shaped for Dawn, artist's palettes for Claudia, etc? It is nice to receive gifts that have something to do with your personality/background sometimes, but... Californian oranges? Really? By the way, what were Dawn and Mary Anne's hobbies, ones that could somehow be used when purchasing gifts for them? Dawn, I suppose you could do the California thing (Californian oranges, yay!) but what about MA?

I'm sure somewhere you can get earrings in the shape of tofu blocks.

That is too funny! I never knew such earrings existed. Dawn would have proudly sported them, I'm sure.

They look like sugar cubes or Anime characters, IMO.

They look like the head of the marshmallow man at the end of Ghostbusters. Which means Claudia would probably like them more.

And then Claudia and Dawn will debate marshmallows vs. tofu.
