I don't think the books give us enough clues to lead me at least to think they had or tried to have sex. The books were geared towards preteens after all, not so much the age group that typically thinks of sex. Just my opinion.

I think that we are meant to believe that until marriage, genitals don't work in Stoneybrook.

Even hypothetically I cant see Janine having sex at 16. Okay, so really smart doesnt equal conservative morals but boys & boyfriends is an area shes unfamiliar with so Id add sex to that list too & say she wouldnt do it until she was older

I can't see it, either, but again the whole Stoneybrook thing is hard to see anyone actually having sex before marriage, especially as teenagers and even more especially as uptight teenagers like Janine.

Janine would be a planner and research everything about every possible form of birth control before she let Jerry get anywhere near here. If they did have sex there wouldn't be anything spontaneous about it.

I never liked Jerry that much because of a line in M#6 where Janine says he likes her "in spite of" her looks. That just makes me think of him as kind of sleazy and manipulative, like he's playing on her insecurities. Some on that line of thought, I could theoretically imagine him pressuring her for sex, but based on Lighthouse Ghost and European Vacation, she'd kick him to the curb before too long.

Yeah, exactly. I never liked Jerry, I think Janine would wait until a really good guy came along.

I have a small question regarding Janine and Jerry. In what book do they break up?

I think in Claudia and the Lighthouse Ghost.

^ Thanks. But for some reason, I think they got back together in that book. I'll have to reread it .

I don't know why I didn't feel much for Janine and Jerry. Maybe because I almost couldn't believe it? So it took me a while before I warmed up to it? Jerry was such a jerk in some books, I couldn't help but feel protective of Janine and not like them together. But, also, it's nice to see a guy who likes brains (if his adoration was genuine).
Isn't he on the cover of Claudia's Big Party? I picture him as the light haired guy in the sweater...

^ Who do you think that guy is then? I always thought he was Jerry because he looks too *old* to be in SMS!
