I know what you mean, aln. I loved TGIF! I was watching an episode of "Step by Step" with my mom this morning, and though the show was never that great IMO ;D, it made me miss the days of family sitcoms. Aside from certain reality shows that I do love and watch, channels are filled with them these days and sometimes it can be a bit much.

^ I loved Step By Step but only the earliest ones. ;D Lately, "my" reruns have been Sister Sister and sometimes Saved by the Bell (not TGIF but another one of my favorites) ;D I think a lot of it is the nostalgia. ;D

Oh man. Saved by the Bell. I was so obsessed with that show when I was in second grade. Though my friend who was obsessed with me and I both liked Slater, but because she was older, she "got" him.

I loved SBTB too. I still watch it on TBS occasionally. I loved TGIF when they had good shows like Family Matters and Perfect Strangers.

I dont' really like sitcoms very much. I like The Office and 30 Rock well enough, but they are still just a substitute for the greatest show ever: Arrested Development. But other then that, I tend to go for the hour long shows. Maybe it's because once I grew up, I realized that situation comedies are kind of boring and contrived. (or they have just lapsed in quality since TGIF?)

I wouldn't use the word quality to describe TGIF, but they certainly knew what their target audience would laugh at. I think the only sitcom that I still like to watch not just for nostalgia is Roseanne. Maybe The Wonder Years, but I haven't seen reruns of that for about a decade so I can't say for sure. I just noticed that we're talking about all this in the Levels thread. I wonder if there's a thread on this board that manages to stay on topic.

I really don't think so.
I didn't really mean quality, so much. I remember liking those shows a lot, even though I don't watch them now. I just don't really like the canned laughter and stupid contrived jokes. But for some reason, if it's on Boy Meets World or Full House, Perfect Strangers, Step by Step or even family matters (the earlier years), it seems "okay". Probably because of the nostalgia? Is it the same reason I'm okay with re-reading a bsc book occasionally, even if I know they are kind of poorly written?

^ I agree I just can't get into new sitcoms, they don't have the same magic and humor as the old ones.

I love the Cosby Show too. Bill Cosby is so hysterical and manages to pull it off without swearing or sexual references, which I love about him.
