In Little sister, I really liked Addie's Character. I wish the BSC sat for her. Did they ever? That would be interesting, because she is not like the other kids they sit for, and she seemed like a really smart kid. Karen was annoying in the book Addie was introduced in, when she tried to do everything for her, but the book, "Karen's New Friend", was a good story about people with disabilities leading productive lives, and it had a good message about tolerance.

Addie's intro book was one of the only times I actually wanted to smack Karen. She said something like "I am going to be Addie's best friend." That made Hannie and Nancy mad, but then Karen was like "Duh. She is not going to be my best friend, but I am going to be her's." Shut up, Karen.
I'm surprised the BSC didn't sit for Addie. You know they loved a good special needs kid to try to "fix" and make better.

I liked her. She did seem really smart, and she was so pretty on the cover of Karen's New Friend. I liked the red ribbon in her hair.
But her name makes me laugh. Did she have a sibling named Melbourne?

I really wanted to smack Karen in that book too and like you, it was the only time I ever felt that way.

I wonder if Ann purposely named Adelaide Sydney after 2 capital cities in Australia... Otherwise the coincidence is crazy... Well, not crazy really, just odd.
Lol at booboobrewer.

^Addie was a new girl who moved into Karen's class in the LS books. She used a wheel chair for reasons I don't really remember. She seemed to be completely average besides the chair. I think she was as close to Karen as, say, Natalie Springer. Which means in some books they acted like good friends and then in others they barely spoke.
Reply to Booboo: I was thinking that, but I thought she wouldn't have it because she seemed to have no issues with her arms. Wikipedia tells me there are different types of cerebral palsy, so there you go. BSC forces me to learn something new again.

^ There are definitely differences in CP. Some people have a strictly mental/developmental type- I know of one young lady who has it who's a phenomonal athlete but definitely delayed mentally; others it's all physical; for some it can be very severe on either side and others it's not at all noticable.

Yeah, I knew someone in my high school class with CP, he had problems with speech. I figured there had to be different kinds since Addie didn't have problems in that area.

I know my biological brother has cerebral palsy. Last time I saw him about 12 years ago, he was in a wheelchair and was blind. There are definitely differences in CP. The state of CA wouldn't even let his foster parents (who he still lives with as far as I know, and he would be 19 now) legally adopt him.

Addie was a good kid. Which reminds me, I have to read Karen's New Friend soon. I also think Karen was being a pain by being overprotective of Addie. Then again, she was only trying to be helpful.

Addie seemed pretty cool, I love how she hung out with her friends, and Karen was all like, "But I'm your only friend!" Puh-lease.
